English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

IFR flight planning basics
I've been asked to give an overview of how I plan an IFR trip. This video gives you an insight into some of the techniques I use and how I start preparing a flight plan. There's obviously a whole lot more to it than what's covered here, it would be impossible (or a really long video) to cover everything, but hopefully this is useful if you're interested in the flight planning process. VERY IMPORTANT: I am a private pilot and am NOT qualified to give flying instruction. This video, like all videos on this channel, has been significantly edited from the original source footage and is provided for entertainment purposes only. Many radio calls and procedures have been omitted. If you have any questions about anything you see or hear, please speak to a Certified Flying Instructor first. Filmed on a GoPro Hero4 Session and GoPro Hero4 Silver.

Flight considerations:: Flight cost, Flight duration (connections), Airline, Alliance, Class of Service, Revenue or Award If an award ticket always the saver ticket, usually business class. Make sure to check other airlines website for availability and CALL. Partner airlines almost always have the best availability. Award tickets: Think of creative routings, look at an airline route map, SAN to NRT on JAL, LAX to VIE on Austrian United miles: At least 3 cents per mile If booking on short notice what seats are available? Exit row economy plus? What are the ontime statistics for the flight? Tip: Early morning flights are the most ontime. High revenue flights also most ontime. Might I be changing the flights quite a bit? Then Southwest -- no change fees. Tools I use: Kayak, Google Flights, ITA Matrix, Airline Websites (actual and partner), and calling the airline. Use month long views, flexible dates, pick some random specific dates and write down the best ones. Picking a hotel: Start with TripAdvisor Read FlyerTalk threads Look for blog reviews on the hotel I like Marriott&Sheraton, Hyatt, Hilton (in that order). Best Western and Holiday Inn basically don't exist for me. Radisson nice internationally. I tend towards large business hotels, but also like the boutique mini chains, Autograph Collection and Andaz. I avoid domestic Courtyards like the plague. Factors for hotel decision: Cost, Quiet rooms, Good AC, Good Location (public transport), Good and cheap (free?) Breakfast, Lounge access, close to restaurants & grocery store. For big chain hotels I always book thru the hotel website. For international trips often Expedia. For Japan: Rakuten. Tip:. Check special hotel rates: AAA, Senior, other? Some hotels have bizarre minimum stay requirements (Andaz Maui I'm talking about you!) I almost always book refundable and changeable hotel reservations. If I don't know specific cities yet, I'll start with a full booking at arrival airport city and shorten reservation later. Buy a few travel books -- Rick Steves for Europe. Select from the most popular on Amazon. Watch YouTube videos. Read wikitravel, Look for other people's itinerary for similar trip length. Develop general itinerary in Google Docs. Also Google keep. Detailed down to what city per day and where we sleep. What mode of transport? Car, train, plane? Generally at least 2 nights in a hotel, prefer 3. Generally prefer trains, then car, then planes Make new hotel bookings or change if new destinations. Check prices of existing reservations. A month out: Book train tickets or buy rail passes. Print out ideal train times. Determine airport to hotel transportation. Print out major attraction info. Right before I go: Check the weather -- Make sure I've packed appropriately. Also be on the lookout for possible weather delays. Change flights if Weather Advisory allows. Check hotel prices again, change to non refundable if available. Make sure I have enough money in my ATM card account. Download Google maps offline. Night before: Decide which travel buddies are going.. Finish final packing of luggage. Missed my last live stream? Weather Wise: VFR Flight Planning
One of the major challenges of flying is weather assessment. In this video we cover the major weather issues facing VFR pilots, with an emphasis on how to get a "big picture" understanding of the situation before leaving the ground. This video was prepared by the AOPA Foundation under award NA12NWS4680015 from the National Weather Service, U.S. Department of Commerce. The statements, findings, conclusions, and recommendations are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Weather Service or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Airport CEO:EP2 - Staff Ratios , First Airline contract, Flight Planning
How to set up a staff Ratios and complete first airline contract and flight planner . Originally a Stream, however got a lot of questions . Now I have started a series on Airport CEO on a new Youtube channel. I have played the game for roughly 12 hours and loving it!!. Airport CEO is a 2D Tycoon and management game in development for PC and Mac where you take the seat as a CEO of your own airport. You will build the airport’s infrastructure with everything from runways and taxiways, gates and tarmac to constructing terminals with check-in, security, restaurants and shopping. You will manage the business perspective of the airport by hiring employees and executives, making deals with airline companies and making sure that ends meet by keeping an eye on budget and resources. You will have to cater to the passengers by keeping waiting time to a minimum, by having friendly and helpful staff around and by making passengers feel secure, keeping any potential criminals at bay; a happy passenger is a shopping passenger. Hopefully you won’t run into any problems such as employee or equipment breakdowns, bad weather causing massive delays or emergency landings. You will be responsible for when things go wrong and, of course, filthy rich when things go right. Using a Bullet Journal for Trip Planning: Tips for Packing, Schedules, and Organization
There are so many apps for every part of life now, and travel apps may be the most saturated market of all. Apps for flight check-in, tracking, lodging, food, drink, meet-ups, and so much more. In this video I show you how I bypass many of those apps (or at least don't rely on them) to get where I need to be. I use two different bullet journal layouts when traveling - one is more category focused, e.g. clothes, flight information, addresses, and work gear. The other is the normal weekly layout for meetings, tasks, and notes. What's important to note is that I'm not getting rid of the apps - I still use Southwest to check in, Airbnb to book lodging, Lyft to get around, and Yelp to find restaurants. But I'm still writing everything down to have a non-app backup and to lock in to my mind what I'm doing and who I'm doing it with. There are studies that back this up too, most notable (pun intended) is "The Pen Is Mightier Than the Keyboard: Advantages of Longhand Over Laptop Note Taking" by Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer. http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0956797614524581 Basically, using apps impairs processing and memory because there's a level of "off-loading" the information to another source. While this is handy for quick retrieval of information (searching), it doesn't help most people actually learn or retain information like writing does. Aerosoft Airbus: Flight Planning (Tutorial)
UPDATE: I've had a number of comments saying that the Rfinder website isn't working. If you're seeing an error that says something like 'Too many requests on the server', then you just have to wait a few minutes, then it should work fine. The problem is the Rfinder server is incapable of processing a large number of requests from different users at one time. Hopefully the creators of the site will improve server capacity in the near future. For now, it's a problem that you'll have to live with as the service is free to use and we can't expect the site owners spend money on it for no gain of their own. Thank you. A quick guide on creating and inserting a flight plan into the Aerosoft Airbus A318 - A321. Airbus Autoland Guide coming soon. Useful Links: http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ (Route Planner)
