Church of the Sea - Anywhere but Desert (Full EP 2018)
Anywhere but desert (EP 2018) http://churchofthesea.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/ChurchoftheSea/ Church of the Sea were formed in 2017 in Athens, Greece, when three individuals came together to create a distinct sound, balancing between doom and dark electronic rock. They embrace fuzzed sounds, heavy distorted beats and ethereal, chant‐like vocals. The result is a unique atmosphere where doom’s heaviness meets the dreamlike state of shoegaze and the shrieks of noise‐rock. Church of the Sea Athens, Greece ================= 1. NOFX- separation of church and skate
Lost in a sea of combat boots, flush the bouncers with wasted youth When did punk rock become so safe? When did the scene become a joke? The kids who used to live for beer and speed now want their fries and coke Cursing and flipping birds are not allowed, in fact let's keep noise levels down Must separate the church and skate! Why don't we put pads on the kids? Helmets, head gear and mouth pieces! Then we could pad the floor and walls, put cameras inside bathroom stalls We make sure only nice bands play, make every show a matinee Teach kids to be all they can be, and we could sing my country tis of thee sweet land of liberty When did punk rock become so safe? I know it wasn't Duane or Fletcher, Who put up the barricades Like a stake in the heart, Somehow we got driven apart [solo] I want conflict! I want dissent! I want the scene to represent... Our hatred of authority, our fight against complacency stop singing songs about girls and love! You killed the owl! You freed the dove! confrontation and politics... Replaced with harmonies and shticks When did punk rock become so tame? These fucking bands all sound the same We want our fights we want our thugs! We want our burns we want our drugs! where is the violent apathy?! These fucking records are rated G! When did punk rock become so safe?!

Moddi - House by the Sea (Live at Jakob Church of Culture)
Taken from the EP 'Live at Jakob Church of Culture', out 22 September 2014. Buy on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/no/album/live-at-jakob-church-culture/id911013044?l=nb Listen on Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/album/2N0lUMAT3J9oDEtoLP3XQI I used to think that more is always more. For many years, my main challenge was to transform bedroom-born songs into stage-ready creatures, fit for the ears of hundreds and thousands. Lately however, I have tried to reverse that process. I skinned off the band, removed instruments and sounds, shrank the crew and production until there was only the bare bones left: me, backed only by my pocket symphony Katrine playing the cello, and my own guitar and accordion. What happened was magical. All of a sudden, the songs sounded like they did the moment they were born. Gone was the production and hours of studio time, adjustments and compromises. Only the lyrics, the stories and the bare melodies that sparked the ideas were left. For a short year now, I’ve had the joy of touring like this: on top of the songs’ back. A new world to explore, and it’s right there in my hands. On stage: Pål Moddi Knutsen – guitar, piano, accordion, vocals. Katrine Schiøtt – cello, vocals. Filmed by Hilde Mesics, Sindre Lønnes and Jørgen Nordby. Edited by Jørgen Nordby. Lights by Isak Bjørn. Recorded by Truls Olsen. Mixed by Kristoffer Bonsaksen. Mastered by Chris Samson. Church of Scientology's Cadet Org/Kids in the Sea Org
Janet Reitman's Inside Scientology says CoS disbanded the Cadet Org. Ex-members say it never went away. One thing is for sure: there are kids running around Flag in distinctive clothing with Sea Org members. First two clips filmed in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 22, 2012, last two clips filmed Friday morning, May 25, 2012 around 9 a.m. Here is the breakdown of a typical week from an ex-Cadet Org member (with minor editing): We'd wake up around 6:30 AM on Mondays through Fridays. We had exactly half an hour to clean up the room and a higher rank cadet, security guard or Atalia herself would check the rooms up before we could go to breakfast. We had breakfast for a half an hour until 7:30 when we had to clean up. We'd get assigned places to clean. Some would get kitchen, dinning room, bathrooms, yard, pool cleaning, laundry cleaning, getting the courserooms ready, etc., then we had school from 8 AM till 11 AM. When we had break, we'd go up to the kitchen and snack something for free or otherwise had the canteen where we could buy a snack (all sugarless though, we could only have sugar from Friday night to Saturday night). 11:15 back to school until 13:00 for lunch, which was a half an hour as well, then we had clean up till 14:00, where we'd go into the cadet room (sort of like a empty carpeted enclosed place where we'd do drilling such as naval marching techniques and briefing, kind of like the training you see in army movies). At 14:30 the bus would come and pick us up to go to the base (that's what we called the area of the FH, CB, Coachman, etc...) and do office work such as stuffing envelopes, organizing pay checks, working at the place where they print the policies (it's called mimmio and it's placed right up the street from the CB like a block and a half or so), etc. In earlier days we were only allowed to go to the base on rare occasions. That's why you read stories where cadets didn't see their parents for weeks and even months. We'd get assigned worksheets for jobs at the QI [previous location of Cadet Org; no longer owned by CoS] like painting, cleaning warehouses, cleaning dorms, trimming plants, stuff like that, all gardening and maintainance work. The going to base part started around 2003. We'd have dinner at 5PM with our parents at the base (this is as i said, applied since 2003, otherwise we'd have dinner at 7PM at the QI). We had school at night again from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. This was different school work because at night we only did Scientology studies, courses from delphi, true school, LRH courses, etc. Also SO courses like etiquete, grooming, cleaning, etc. We'd then have half an our to get ready for bed and lights off at ten o'clock. On Saturdays we had a similar arrangement as the normal SO staff, we'd have a day off every 2 weeks if we had our stats up, hopefully it was the same day as our parents libs day so we could spend the day with them (it almost never happened though). The kids that didn't have the day off would stay at the QI, have assignments through out the day and on the afternoons they'd have to white-glove their rooms (meaning we had to clean from top to bottom and leave it so clean a white glove would be passed around and not get a single stain). Saturday night was movie night for the cadets that weren't grounded for their stat-down, it was also hamburger and hot dog day, sugar day and video game day, it was sort of like a day a week of being almost a normal kid... Sundays were no different from Saturdays except for the white glove part.

St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church West Melbourne, Australia
St Mary Star of the Sea is one of the most beautiful and historically significant churches in Australia. Originally with seating for over 1200 people, it has been described as the largest parish church in Melbourne, in Victoria, or even in Australia. On 30 September 1852, only a few weeks after land allotments in North Melbourne became available, Very Rev Patrick Geoghegan OSF, Melbourne's first Vicar General, secured two acres, on the highest point within the block formed by Victoria, William and Chetwynd streets. A foundation stone was laid two years later, on 14 May 1854, and within six months a modest cruciform stone church was erected. Melbourne's port lay in the church's shadow, and so the church was dedicated to Our Lady, Star of the Sea, patroness of seafarers. Priests from St Francis', Melbourne's proto-cathedral, served the mission. The Victorian Gold Rush fuelled a population explosion which contributed to a rapidly increasing Catholic congregation. On 28 July 1862, Rev Simon Riordan chaired a public meeting which resolved to erect an entirely new church to serve North and West Melbourne. A scarcity of funds forced an alternative: two additional transepts should be added to the existing building. Construction was delayed, however, by a good nine years. In 1871, a new transept increased the capacity of the church to 500. Two years later, in 1873, St Mary Star of the Sea became a parish. Rev Henry England, West Melbourne's long-standing locum, was appointed first parish priest. In 1875, Archbishop Goold visited the parish, and informed priest and parishioners that the building was not adequate for divine worship. In response, a second transept was added and the interior renovated. The communion rails were preserved, and the forward altar was only a temporary wooden structure. By the turn of the century, the external fabric of St Mary's was in a very bad state. Its interior was gloomy and in a state of synthetic disrepair. In 2001, Archbishop George Pell entrusted the parish to the priests of Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. In 2002 the parish priest, Rev Dr Joseph Martins, launched a $10 million restoration project, which is ongoing. Thomas Hazell AO, an experienced public servant and committed restorationist, headed the project. Dennis Payne, the chief architect, led a specialist team widely recognised for expertise in heritage buildings and places of worship. George Giannis, the chief restorer, set about not only restoring past grandeur, but added details which were envisaged but never realised in the initial construction. Faithful restoration, by way of example, includes the recreation of gold stencil work in the sanctuary. Some of the stencils relate directly to Eugène Viollet-le-Duc's restorations at the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, whilst others derive from Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin's designs for the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. Giannis' team has also recovered the original brilliance of the magnificent images of St Gabriel and St Michael which overlook the high altar. But he has also painted and fixed a depiction of Christ Pantocrator, which was intended to adorn the arch separating the nave and chancel. Similarly, fibre-glass angels now stand in the niches high in the church ceiling, in place of carved timber angels which were planned in the 1890s, but never commissioned. To enable Mass to be offered by the priest facing the congregation, construction of a permanent marble Altar coram populum accompanied the restoration project. The altar was designed by Rev Victor Martinez, a professional architect and priest of Opus Dei. It accords with the design, but does not compete with the monumentality, of the magnificent high altar which dominates the sanctuary. Its constituent two tonnes of marble required extra reinforcement to the crypt beneath the sanctuary. The restoration of the interior is largely complete. Several trade unions and building suppliers very generously donated labour and equipment. Most of the sum raised for the restoration financed the replacement of the decayed sand and limestone of the external walls. Over 250 tonnes of replacement stone was used on the north and east facades. Exterior work on the west and south facades is still outstanding. The global financial crisis has impacted fund-raising, and work has ground to a halt. Scaffolding remains however, and it is hoped that the restoration project can be completed, despite an economic environment similar to the one which slowed, but did not prevent, initial construction. http://www.stmaryswestmelbourne.org/

An esoteric but most excellent adventure to the alluring Church Rock sea stack near Bosherston in Pembroke using an incongruous armada of sea vessels. Much to our suprise the stack was duly reached and no-one drowned, drifted half-way to America or required rescuing by a Sea King taxi. Consequently the photogenic "crag classic" VS called "Man Underboard" was climbed and filmed before putting up 3 new routes so happy daze! :-)

Church of the Primacy of Peter, Tabgha, Sea of Galilee, Israel
Church of the Multiplication The earliest building at Tabgha was a small chapel built in the 4th century A.D. This was probably the shrine described by the pilgrim Egeria at the end of the 4th century: "In the same place (not far from Capernaum) facing the Sea of Galilee is a well watered land in which lush grasses grow, with numerous trees and palms. Nearby are seven springs which provide abundant water. In this fruitful garden Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish."[2] The mosaic of the fish and loaves is laid next to a large rock, which has caused some New Testament scholars to speculate that the builders of the original church believed that Jesus stood on this rock when he blessed the fish and loaves just before the feeding of the crowd who had come to hear him. The large monastery and a church were built in the fifth century. While some date the destruction of the site to the time of the Arab conquest, the church was most likely destroyed in 614 during the Persian invasion, for already in AD 670, Bishop Arculf had reported that only columns from the church remained. In 1932, after nearly 1300 years of "solitude", two German archaeologists (Mader and Schneider) uncovered a number of the Byzantine church's walls and mosaics. In 1981, after further excavations, the church was finally restored by German Benedictines to its Byzantine form, incorporating portions of the original mosaics. Today, the church and surrounding land are property of the German Association of the Holy Land whose head is the Archbishop of Cologne. The site is further maintained by Benedictine monks from the Hagia Maria Sion Abbey, also known as Dormition Church, which is located on Mount Zion in Jerusalem
