The profession of Civil engineer is considered as one of the well paid and respected as they are major contributors to the society. They must possess a very broad skill set, from cost accounting to geology. Many civil engineers have jobs that require a very hands-on role in construction, while others may have positions more heavily weighted toward supervisory and administrative skills. We can therefore see how important it is for Civil Engineers to possess certain qualities and skills. Here we are providing the 7 most important skills that civil engineers should have in order succeed. 1. Technical Skills A good Civil Engineer should have a level of Mathematics and Physics that allows for the identification and solving of engineering problems. Lets put it this way, if a Structural Engineer wasn't able to accurately work out how much weight is being distributed throughout a bridge, anyone wouldn't dare to be driving anywhere near that bridge. Civil Engineers also need to be skilled in design techniques and working with maps, drawings and models, as well as CAD software. They need to be able to predict any possible future problems and find solutions for them. 2. Project Management When problems arise, it is common for people involved in the project on all levels to look to the engineer for guidance and resolution. It is important that a Civil Engineer is able to step up to the task and manage a diverse team of professionals whilst maintaining the confidence of clients. 3. Leadership Skills Civil engineers carry a great deal of responsibility as they are ultimately in charge of the entire project’s design and implementation. They must be able to lead a diverse team of professionals, including surveyors, construction managers, technicians, contractors, architects, urban planners, transportation engineers and others, as well as maintain the confidence of governmental planning authorities. The effectiveness of the civil engineer’s leadership skills may be a significant determining factor in keeping a project on time and on budget. 4. Communication Skills In Civil Engineering - perhaps more so than other Engineering fields - the ability to communicate effectively is a highly sought after skill. Whether dealing with Management or a client, Engineers need to be able to clearly communicate ideas and give direction leaving no ambiguity. They must also be able to listen and benefit from the ideas of others in the team. 5. Creativity It could be said broadly that the role of Civil Engineers is applying Engineering principles to develop solutions within the built environment. More often than not, this requires a certain level of creativity. Engineers need to be able to innovate and improve on solutions. From finding ways to reduce CO2 emissions or making a trampoline bridge, creativity is key. 6. Visualization The ability to imagine what something will look like when it’s finished and visualize how complex components will come together is one of the most important skills a civil engineer can have. Visualization skills must be flexible and dynamic in order to identify and resolve issues before they can become problems. Because there are so many component parts to large-scale projects, civil engineers must be able to envision how the interrelationships change when one or more individual aspects are changed. 7. Critical Thinking Civil Engineers often face complex problems and need to find efficient solutions for them. They need to be able to assess the pros and cons of all possible solutions, and they need to be decisive in order to choose the best one. Civil Engineers generally require a very broad skill set and these list is in no way exhaustive but these 7 were what we saw to be the most important skills for a Civil Engineer. Optical fiber has a diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair. 2.Structure and Working of the Optical Fibre Optical fibers are made of glass or plastic. Most optical fibers used in communication have diameter of 0.25 mm to 0.5 mm including outer coating. Optical Fibre communication takes place between 0.8 micrometer to 1.7 micrometer of wavelength of electromagnetic spectrum. Optical fibres have a transparent core which is surrounded by a transparent cladding and the cladding has a protective covering over it. Based on the refractive index profile, there are two categories of optical fibres- #Step Index Optical Fibres #Graded Index Optical Fibres In step index fibres, the refractive index profile makes a step change at the core-cladding interface. In step index fibre if core has refractive index n1 and cladding has refractive index n2, then this condition holds- n1 greater than n2 And this is necessary condition for Total Internal Reflection (TIR) in the optical fibre. While the graded index fibres don't have a constant refractive index in the core but the refractive index of the core decreases with increasing radial distance from the core axis. It has maximum value of refractive index at the core axis that decreases as we move away from the core axis and becomes constant in the cladding. So when the light rays fall on the core-cladding interface (moves from denser to rarer medium), it returns back into the core. But for the Total Internal Reflection (TIR) to take place, it is necessary for the light rays to have incidence angle greater than the critical angle while moving from denser to rarer medium (core to cladding). 3.Optical Fiber Communication Process 4.Types of Optical Fibres (Based on Modes of Propagation) There are two types of optical fibres based on modes of propagation - #Single Mode fibres (SMF) #MultiMode fibres (MMF) As clear by the name itself, the single mode fibres support only one propagation path, since they have very small diameter. While multimode fibres can support many propagation paths or transverse modes as they have larger diameter. Single mode fibres are used for long distance communication while multimode fibres for short distance communication. Single mode fibre provide greatest transmission bandwidth and lowest losses in communication. 5.Benefits of Optical Fibres #Energy loss is negligible inside the optical fibres while propagation due to total internal reflection. #Optical fibres provide very large potential bandwidth (since optical communication takes place at very high frequency. #Optical fibres have small size, are lightweight and very flexible. #Optical fibres provide electrical isolation and are shock resistant. Since inside the fibre, light propagates; not any electric current. #Optical fibers provide high degree of signal security since these fibres do not radiat #Optical fibres are easy to maintain and the communication system is reliable. 6.Losses in Optical Fibres. These losses are the following- #Material absorption #Linear and nonlinear scattering #Fibre bend losses 7.Dispersion in optical fibres When light rays travel through the fiber, the phenomena of dispersion (broadening of transmitted light pulses), The dispersion is of two types- #Intermodal Dispersion #Intramodal Dispersion #OpticalFiber #FiberCable #FiberOptics

In this video, Superposition Theorem is explained with examples. So, in this video, first, Superposition Theorem is explained using one example of an electrical circuit and then three examples based on this Superposition Theorem has been solved. Superposition Theorem Statement: Any linear bilateral network containing more than one independent sources, the response in any of the branches ( Voltage or Current) is equal to the algebraic sum of the responses caused by each individual sources acting alone, where rest of the sources are replaced by their internal impedance. So, ideal voltage source will be replaced by a short circuit and ideal current source will be replaced by an open circuit. This Superposition Theorem is quite useful when circuit contains more than one independent AC sources with different frequencies. To apply this Superposition Theorem, the network or circuit has to be linear and bilateral. If the circuit contains any dependent source, then during the Superposition Theorem analysis, all the dependent sources are kept on. Or in another way, we can say that dependent sources are not turned off during the analysis.
