An Expert's Guide to Vintage Shopping in Tokyo | WWD

08:55
Designer John Elliott and WWD’s style director Alex Badia head to Kōenji, a district of Tokyo, to go vintage shopping in three stores, including Don Don Down and Slut. While finding one-of-a-kind pieces, Elliot discusses why he thinks Tokyo contains the best shopping in the world, what it was like creating women’s wear for the first time and where he finds inspiration for his collections. Follow along to see the best of Tokyo’s underground, hard-to-find vintage spots. Subscribe to WWD's YouTube channel here: http://bit.ly/WWDYTSubscribe As a child growing up in San Francisco, at about age 8 John Elliott decided he wanted to start his own company. After sketching sneaker designers in class, his mother encouraged him to send them to Nike. Surprisingly, he received a written response from the company, which serves as “hallowed inspiration” for his streetwear brand now that he has collaborated with the activewear giant — something that he dreamed of for more than 20 years. Japanese Street Style - Shouta, Harajuku

08:24
Meet Shouta, a 26-year-old Japanese aspiring musician, model, and actor who is active in the Harajuku street fashion scene. Shouta, who had a complex about his appearance, has tried to turn that negative into a positive through the power of fashion and music. "Our Streets, My Style" is our original show taking you up close and personal with Japanese street style personalities. Meet the amazing people featured in the daily street snaps Tokyo Fashion has been publishing for over a decade. Shouta on Instagram and Twitter: https://instagram.com/tananasho/ https://twitter.com/tananasho We first met Shouta on the streets of Tokyo's Harajuku neighborhood several years ago. The aspiring musician (he plays guitar and drums as well as singing) immediately stood out because of his bald head and minimalist oversized fashion. His passion for music - which has long been his dream - was obvious, even in our first conversations. Shouta first began visiting Harajuku after moving to Tokyo from Nagano. He told us that he used to have a complex about his appearance. After starting a band and getting more involved in fashion, he began to see the negative things that he had been focusing on as potential positives that made him unique. Over the last few years, in addition to his band, Shouta has been doing more modeling for fashion brands. His style is very "Japanese" and he wears fashion by designers - Yohji Yamamoto is his favorite - that incorporate traditional Japanese elements into their modern stylings. In addition to modeling, he has also started to do some acting in short films, something that he hopes to explore more in the future. Shouta has built a large circle of fashion-loving friends on the streets of Harajuku, which he told us helps to keep him positive when dark thoughts start to creep in. And when he can't suppress them, he tries to focus any negativity into song writing for his band. Even though he told us that he has a "gloomy" side, Shouta is someone who we always enjoy meeting on the street, and we hope that you'll enjoy his interview as well! Follow Shouta on Instagram to see more of his life, music, and modeling. You can also ask him questions directly via her social media accounts. Please leave comments in the YouTube comments if you have suggestions for future episodes of this show. Thank you for watching and for supporting Japanese street fashion. Avant-Garde Fashion - Beauty Through Reduction

09:31
Avant-garde fashion designers produce beautiful garments that push the boundaries of conventional taste. In many ways, avant-garde pushes back against the trends in mainstream fashion in an attempt to create work that is more thoughtful and of a higher quality. With its emphasis on silhouette, drapery, asymmetry and unique textures, avant-garde fashion yields some of the most creative garments we see today. Designers and brands featured (partial list): Yohji Yamamoto / Y-3, Comme des Garçons, Rick Owens, Junya Watanabe, Alexander McQueen, Thom Krom Please support the designers you like! HEIHEI - Japanese Street Fashion by Shohei Kato カトーショーヘー

13:22
Behind the scenes with independent Japanese streetwear designer Shohei Kato. Find out what inspired Shohei to create his popular-in-Harajuku Japanese fashion brand. HEIHEI is an independent Japanese fashion brand often seen on the streets of Harajuku. The brand was created by Bunka Fashion College graduate Shohei Kato in 2013. In this feature, we go behind the scenes of several of HEIHEI's lookbook shoots and also talk with the designer about what inspires him, how he first became interested in fashion, what influence Harajuku has had on his creative process, and much more. The first HEIHEI collection featured oversized unisex fashion with bold graphics mixing elements of kawaii and grotesque. Harajuku style icon Hirari Ikeda was the image model for the first HEIHEI collection, and Hirari has returned several times to model for the brand since that time. We also talk to Shohei about the experience of working with Hirari Ikeda. The second HEIHEI collection was inspired by baseball and other memory fragments from Shohei's childhood. The third collection "HEIHEI Dalmatians" features artwork inspired by movies and toys from Shohei's childhood. We hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at one of Japan's up-and-coming fashion designers. For more info, please check the following links: HEIHEI Official Website: http://www.heihei.jp/ HEIHEI on Social Media: https://twitter.com/SHOW_HEY_K http://instagram.com/heiheitokyo A big thank you to Shohei Kato (カトーショーヘー) and the stylists, models, photographers, studio support staff, and everyone else who made this video possible. ► JUN TAKAHASHI, Undercover's Fashion Designer | An Exclusive Interview with yoox.com

05:00
http://yoox.ly/yooxFashion Undercover takes a varied approach, mixing couture with street style and the punk-rock mentality of Tokyos youth culture. The New Yooxer meets Jun Takahashi, the brands designer and art director, whose philosophy is to make noise, not clothes. Born in 1969, Japan's Jun Takahashi is the indisputable artistic soul behind Undercover, a brand that has been part of the Paris Fashion Week's Calendar since 2002. As an honored guest during the 66th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, Jun showed a preview of the Men's 2010 collection and shared his style inspirations with a doll-making event in Florence's Boboli gardens, much to the delight of the fashion public. Using needle and thread to create "beauty and horror", the dolls of Undercover became a kind of stylish laboratory experiment, resulting in a series of lacey creatures named Grace, aptly named for the spontaneous spirit with which they were brought to life. Hybrid creatures that fall somewhere between the feminine and the alien, the realistic and the fantastic, the dolls were a first step in challenging the standard fashion show stereotypes while proposing a new way of representing rock 'n roll spirit behind the Spring/Summer 2010 Collections, and were complemented by a photographic installation by the artist Katsuhide Morimoto. Undercover's mission has always been to emphasize the driving "concept" behind every collection, an exercise in communication that goes beyond any single garment to reveal the greater vision that lies beneath. A vision that would otherwise remain "Undercover". *** yoox.com, established in 2000, is the world's leading lifestyle e-store for multi-brand fashion, design and art. Shopping on yoox.com is all about discovery - an eclectic and playful journey beyond fashion's strict seasonal rules - allowing men and women to express their individuality through timeless and creative style. http://yoox.ly/shopyoox Powered by YOOX Group

What Happens When Japan’s Most Famous Rock Star Becomes A Fashion Designer

00:58
Have you ever wondered what it might look like if Japan’s most famous rock star created a line of designer kimonos? Me neither. But I found out the answer to this question after a spontaneous trip to Tokyo, which entailed a six-day binge on heavy metal, avant-garde fashion, and general cultural-immersion radness (with, of course, some traditional karaoke peppered in on the side). And who doesn’t want to know what that’s like? Yoshikimono is the brainchild and kimono line of Yoshiki, the leader of the heavy metal band, X Japan. If you’re unfamiliar, let’s just say it’s impossible to overemphasize their cultural significance. As Gene Simmons, leader of the band KISS, said himself, “If those guys were born in America, they might be the biggest band in the world.” Yoshiki and his bandmates created the “Visual Kei” movement, which some compare to Japan’s version of Glam Rock, but would more appropriately be described as heavy metal-meets-steampunk-meets-David Bowie, with their wardrobe something of the outer space, both 100 years into the future and 100 years in the past, in an alternate universe mostly renowned for its unlimited supply of makeup. More succinctly, you can’t really put a finger on it; and when you see it in person, you sort of don’t even care to try. X Japan leads this movement with borderline mythical status, and according to a U.K.-based publicist, the only comparable modern phenomena in terms of fan dedication is “Beatlemania in the ’60s.” In other words, Yoshiki is a living legend. Japanese Street Fashion - Dice-K, Harajuku

05:09
Meet Dice-K, a young Japanese fashion designer and creative whose brand GlamHate celebrates vampires, glam - and hate! "Our Streets, My Style" is our original show taking you up close and personal with Japanese street style personalities. Meet the amazing people featured in the daily street snaps Tokyo Fashion has been publishing for over a decade. Dice-K on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dice_kkkk/ https://www.instagram.com/glamhate/ https://glamhate.xyz We first met Dice-K at a Lady Gaga concert in Tokyo nearly five years ago. Since then, they enrolled in - and recently graduated from - one of Japan's most prestigious universities, launched their own fashion brand, and evolved in so many ways (both aesthetic and personal). Over the years, we've been ever impressed not only by Dice-K's style, but also their thoughtful consideration of fashion, life, and the intersection of the two. When we sat down with Dice-K on the street in Harajuku this week, they were very open about their personal history and their current feelings on fashion and life. Dice-K is about to release the second collection of their own brand GlamHate. The new GlamHate collection is called "VAMPYRE", but it's not meant in the old fashioned way. Dice-K explains (in the video) that the vampire concept is related to the way fashion trends spread through social media. Popular influencers are vampires who infect others on social media with their taste, and those newly created vampires spread the trends to others. The number of vampires infected by these fashion trends grow exponentially and uncontrollably around the globe. Please watch the interview video to find out more about Dice-K in their own words. Also - if you are in Japan, Dice-K would love to meet you in person at the exhibition for the new GlamHate "VAMPYRE" collection in Tokyo from April 19-22, 2018 at ShibuyaRoom. See the details of the exhibition and map at the official GlamHate Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/glamhate/ Please subscribe to the Tokyo Fashion YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=tokyofashionnews See our daily Japanese street snaps on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tokyofashion/ Music and sound effects used under license.

5 Best Streetwear Brands of 2018

Here is a rundown of Streetwear Brands to look out for in 2018. These are, in my opinion, some of the best Men’s clothing brands to keep an eye out for. If you are a hypebeast and only know about Supreme, then maybe this video will inform you that there are more brands out there haha. So super mainstream brands that you see the most on YouTube, are probably not on this list. These brands range from different price points, high and low.
