A sea of plastic: Shocking images show how bottles, bags and rubbish are choking our oceans

A sea of plastic: Shocking images show how bottles, bags and rubbish are choking our oceans In one photograph taken near Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras, a diver grimaces as he prepares to enter the water almost completely covered by waste. Another, taken from below the waterline, shows plastic bottles, bags and other rubbish on the surface blocking out sunlight. It is thought the rubbish was washed into the sea from nearby Guatemala, carried on rivers swollen by the recent rainy season flowing through towns and villages. 10 STRANGE Deep Sea Photos Explained

08:39
From a suicide squid squad, to the eery findings deep under the Australian Great Barrier Reef, these are 10 STRANGE Deep Sea Photos Explained Under the Reef Let’s head back to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for this one … actually, we’re heading under the Reef. Researchers came away with some incredible pictures of deep sea creatures when high-tech cameras were able to examine environments some 1500 meters (nearly 5000 feet) below the surface. Scary-looking deep-sea anglerfish, swarms of crustaceans and deep sea jellyfish Atolla were among the many strange forms of ocean life found over the course of the 10 day research project. When this bizarre looking deep sea creature washed up on a New Zealand beach earlier in 2016, people didn’t know what to make of it. The 13-foot animal’s disturbing, black dinner-plate-sized eyes and humped back gave a few tourists a shock … but some maintained their composure long enough to take a picture of the creature … or with the creature! While the sea creature may have unusual looks, it’s not exactly an unusual creature. It’s a bigeye thresher shark, known to hunt offshore, but are rarely observed close to beaches. The animals use their long tail to stun prey, but aren’t considered a threat to humans. There are three species of thresher shark, and all have been listed as ‘vulnerable to extinction’ since 2007. Acorn Worm -- A six-week research project in 2010 set out to investigate marine life forms along the mid-Atlantic ridge … it’s a sub-polar front where warm waters from the south meets cold waters from the Gulf Stream. The exploration yielded a vast array of sea life and many potential new species. This Acorn Worm (aka Enteropneust Hemichordate anter-ope-nee-ist (heem-mah-chore-date) was photographed with a Remote Operated Vehicle, which located the creature using its adhesive tentacles to attach itself to the seafloor. The picture by David Shale almost looks like the worm could be a flower blossoming from its stem underwater. Acorn Worms are invertebrates that can survive at depths of 10,000 feet below the ocean surface. Deep Sea Anemone -- Does it look like a trap is waiting to be sprung … like if you get too close to the center of this thing, those tentacles will suddenly rise up and imprison you? You’re not far wrong. Say hello to the sea anemone … an invertebrate carnivore named after the terrestrial anemone flower, due to the perceived resemblance. They spend most of their time attached to rocks on the seafloor. They’ll also attach themselves to coral reefs waiting for fish to pass by. Those tentacles are actually filled with venom, which will paralyze prey the anemone ensnares. While most anemones are harmless to humans, certain highly toxic species are potentially lethal. Did you know that depending on the species, sea anemones can live more than 50 years? Big Red -- Bet you wouldn't guess this is a jellyfish. This relatively new species was discovered in the Pacific Ocean in 2003 … but was first spotted 10 years earlier. Only 23 members of this species have been found, with only a very small specimen acquired for study. The creatures are known to grow up to 30 inches in diameter and live at ocean depths of nearly 5000 feet. Because they live at such extreme depths, remote operated submarines were used to take pictures and high-resolution videos of the creatures. What really makes them distinct from other species of jellyfish is the lack of long tentacles … this creature has four-to-seven thick, fleshy arms it uses to capture food and eat. While scientists know the jellyfish is red all over, it could take awhile before researchers can uncover more information pertaining to the animal's food, predators, reproduction and so on. Here’s a fun fact … researchers were originally going to call the animal “Big Ugly” … but it was renamed “Gran rojo” … Spanish for Big Red. Think this picture of a Beluga whale looks strange? He sounded even stranger. This is Noc, a whale that could actually mimic human speech. His voice was so human-like that it often fooled divers … and made researchers believe the marine mammal was trying to make contact with his human friends. It’s thought that Noc began making human-like sounds after hearing divers using their communication equipment underwater. After hearing Noc, scientists at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in San Diego tried to pick up more voices by building a special underwater listening platform. While Noc could be heard on the mic, the other two older whales who lived with him didn’t seem as eager to communicate. Sorry to say that after 30 years at the national Marine Mammal Foundation, Noc passed away in 2007. 18 Most Haunting Images From Under the Sea

11:34
You won't believe what is actually captured in photos deep underwater from yoga with a stingray to mysterious abandoned boats 9. Deadly Blue Hole This enormous hole on the ocean floor in known as ‘Dean’s Blue Hole’ and is the world’s deepest known saltwater blue hole that has an entrance below sea level. It is 202 meters deep and is located in a bay just west of Clarence Town on Long Island in the Bahamas. It certainly gives me goosebumps just looking at it, and I wouldn’t want to fall into it. 8. Scary Giant Squid One of the most daunting and intimidating sea creatures of them all is the giant squid, which can grow to a massive size because of deep-sea gigantism. According to recent estimates, the giant squid females can grow to lengths of 43 feet, or 13 meters, and the males grow up to 33 feet, or 10 meters, from the tip of the tentacles to the posterior fins. That is as large as an average yacht! Can you say deep sea nightmare? 7. Yoga with a Giant Stingray While it may look like the stingray is smiling, and that the swimmer is doing calming yoga, the beauty of this picture is how dangerous what the swimmer is doing actually is. Contact with a stingray’s stinger could mean death for this swimmer. The large fish, and the contrast of how small the human is in comparison, makes this one of the most breathtaking underwater interaction pictures. Also, it is pretty impressive how the swimmer is holding that beautiful pose with the giant stingray just feet away. 6. Creepy Wall of Seaweed No, this is not an optical illusion. That’s right, what you are seeing in this picture is tons of giant seaweed in the rolling waves. Yes, seaweed, like what sushi is wrapped in. But this form of seaweed is far less edible and far more sinister. People die every year from getting caught in its sliminess, causing them to drown as a result. Typically, seaweed isn’t considered as dangerous as a shark, but have you ever had that feeling of something under the water brushing up against you that makes you want to jump out of your skin? That is exactly what you get with this seaweed. 5. Abandoned Submarine The ocean floor doesn’t just have creepy animals, but also some creepy leftovers from humans. There is something so creepy about swimming around the remains of an old ship, or in this case, a giant abandoned submarine. Around the submarine, you will find giant jellyfish and big fish, but that is not the biggest concern for divers. Getting caught in the massive boat’s propeller would spell out certain death. It would probably be best to stick to coral reefs and sharks. 4. The Shadowing Shark What could be more pleasant than a day out on your kayak paddling through crystal clear turquoise waters? Well, this unassuming fella clearly thought the same thing. But what he doesn’t know is that there is danger lurking just feet from him, which could have resulted in a lethal attack. This situation is exactly how many people who are killed by sharks happen to die – when they are least expecting it. We would be high-tailing it out of there as fast as we could paddle. 3. Creepy Ocean Bug So the Goblin Shark and the Wolffish may be terribly ugly looking things, even by sea creature standards, but this gigantic sea bug really takes the cake. It has officially been called a giant isopod, and it certainly is a giant. While this creepy creature may not be as delicious as a sea bream or red snapper, this fisherman looks quite happy with himself for catching the big crustacean. 2. Shark Face Just this picture alone is enough to make anyone question going for a swim in the ocean. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the dramatic and intense cello music and the unsuspecting swimmer being dragged to the depths of the ocean to become dinner for one of these sharp-toothed creatures. The scariest part is just how calm the top of the water looks, making it even more real that this shark could be swimming near you and you wouldn’t even know it. Brave the open ocean… if you dare! 1. Creepy Bubble Formation Water is an interesting substance, allowing for creepy displays when air comes into contact with it. Imagine scuba diving along the ocean bed only to look up and see what appears to be a bubble man. It would give any of us the heebie-jeebies, especially knowing what other creatures share the water.

19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures

09:30
From Nemo, the clownfish, to the beautiful and elusive Blue Sea Slug, these are 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures ! 8. Blue Tang -- Undersea creatures seem to look really cool in blue … and this one is no exception. The Blue Tang shows off some amazing blue coloration complemented by bold black markings. It almost sounds like a fashion shows, right? These fish are usually found in Indo-Pacific waters and are actually bright yellow when they’re younger. The blue and black colors show up at their final phase of development. 7. Coral -- Is that a brain at the bottom of the ocean? No … but it is a brain coral … and just an example of the wide ranging variety of living coral and coral reefs, some of which are thought to have started growing over 50 million years ago. Contrary to some beliefs, coral are animals, not plants … they’re actually related to anemones and jellyfish. The reefs formed by coral provide housing for thousands of marine species, giving them a place to find food, reproduce, and keep them safe until they’re mature enough to venture into the deeper ocean. Did you know coral reef plants and animals have proven important to the development of new medicines to treat cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease? But even with all those advantages, human activity is threatening almost 60 percent of the world’s coral reefs. 6. Flower Hat Jellyfish -- This rare species of jellyfish is a rare species usually found in the waters of southern japan, Argentina and Brazil. It can grow to a half-foot in diameter, and is easily recognizable by its translucent bell, which is pinstriped with opaque bands. Those coiling tentacles adhere to the rim while not in use. Like many pretty looking things, this jelly carries a sting … but even though it’s painful, it’s non-lethal to humans … the worst you’d get is a rash. 5. Blue Sea Slug -- We couldn’t find a lot of information on this critter. From what we’ve seen, it’s often identified as a Blue Sea Slug … but that sounds like a pedestrian name for such a colorful creature. You can see the brilliant blue coloration in this photo … the animal almost looks like an alien life form with the two antennae sticking up. We’re guessing it might be a Nudibranch (new-di-brank). Those mollusks are noted for their striking colors, and there are more than 2,300 validated species scattered about the world. Can you confirm that? Let us know in the comments! 4. Mantis Shrimp -- They’re one of the most colorful forms of marine life, but don’t be fooled. They’re also known as ferocious undersea predators that possess, pound for pound, one of the most powerful punches on the planet. Punching with speed equal to a .22 caliber bullet, the Mantis Shrimp has not only broken shells of its prey … it’s also broken through aquarium glass. Punching at that velocity makes water vaporize and explode with a sharp bang, a flash of light and extremely high heat, all of which is felt by the victim as an additional blast. Not bad for an animal that averages less than four inches long. 3. Juvenile Emperor Angelfish -- Their coloration will change with age … but while they’re young, they exhibit these amazing displays of swirling dark blue, white and electric blue. It almost look hypnotic, right? Well, the fish keeps these distinct patterns until it reaches maturity, which usually takes around 4 years. Then the fish develops blue and yellow stripes, and black shading around its eyes. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiprioninae Clownfish -- Did you recognize them from “Finding Nemo”? Known as one of the most brightly colored fish in the world, their bodies have distinctive white striping with colors that can vary from red, orange or yellow. They’re also known as anemone fishes, because of their mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones. The toxic tentacles of the anemones protect clownfish from predators. And the fast movement of the fishes helps anemones find food and increase circulation. 1. The Mandarinfish -- Also known as the “Mandarin Dragonet” it swims in the Pacific reefs … but it’s less than 3 inches long so it can be difficult to see in the wild. As you might guess, this fish is highly sought after in the aquarium trade … but they’re considered extremely difficult to their strict eating habits. Some people think the Mandarinfish might be the most beautiful fish in the world … would you agree? to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

Ningen Humanoid Giant Sea Creature from Antarctic Ocean

10:25
numerous vessels claim to have witnessed the massive humanoid-beings rise from the depths of the ocean. These mysterious creatures, are called Ningen which translates as “human” in Japanese. The first time this giant humanoid sea creature was seen, was by a Japanese research vessel, off the coast of Antarctica in the 1990s. According to witnesses, there are creatures who have a human-like shape, often with legs, arms, and even five-fingered hands. Sometimes they are described with fins or a large tail like that of mermaids. 💜 Subscribe and like if you enjoyed the video. Did N.O.A.A Confirm The Existence Of Sea Monsters?

06:13
Support Us On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/MysteryHistory We Are Also On Steemit: https://steemit.com/@mysteryhistory Julia, is the name given to the unknown source of a sound recorded on March 1, 1999. It was recorded on the eastern equatorial Pacific, using an autonomous hydrophone array. Heard for many thousands of kilometres, the source of the sound has been largely dismissed as an iceberg running aground somewhere off of Antarctica, it’s the point of origin being somewhere between Bransfield Straits and Cape Adare. What gave this story a rather chilling twist however, is a classified image which later surfaced, a classified image later redacted, taken by a NASA satellite, which shows something with an enormous shadow, within the waters of Cape Adare at the time, which if confirmed as a living animal, would be classified as a sea monster of gigantic proportions. The USA’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations, or the NOAA for short, have captured and subsequently released, a number of mysterious sounds of possible underwater monsters over the past few years. The Upsweep is an unidentified sound detected on the American NOAA's equatorial autonomous hydrophone arrays. This sound was present when the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory began recording its sound surveillance system, SOSUS, in August, 1991. It consists of a long train of narrow-band upsweeping sounds of several seconds in duration each. The source level was high enough to be recorded throughout the Pacific. The sound appears to be seasonal, generally reaching peaks in spring and autumn, but it is unclear why. The source can be roughly located at 54°S 140°W, which is near the location of volcanic activity, but the origin of the sound remains a mystery. The Whistle, recorded in the Mariana volcanic arc of the Pacific ocean, but since it was only recorded on one hydrophone, rather than the three required to triangulate a location, it is considered "unidentified. Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low-frequency and extremely powerful underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 1997. The sound's source was roughly triangulated to a remote point in the south Pacific Ocean west of the southern tip of South America, and the sound was detected several times. According to the NOAA description, it rises in frequency rapidly over the duration of one minute, and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km. Dr. Christopher Fox does not believe its origin to be man-made, such as a submarine or bomb, nor is it familiar to geological events such as volcanoes or earthquakes. The audio profile of Bloop does indeed resemble that of a living creature, yet the source is a mystery both because it is different from any known sounds and because it was several times louder than the loudest ever recorded animal, the blue whale. Slow Down is name given to another mysterious deep sea sound, recorded on May 19, 1997, in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean, name was chosen because the sound slowly decreases in frequency over a duration of 7 minutes. It was recorded using an autonomous hydrophone array. The sound has been picked up several times each year since 1997. And finally, the Train is the name given to a sound recorded on March 5, 1997 on the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array. The sound rises to a quasi-steady frequency, what is especially interesting about this sounds is its origins, which are also within Cape Adare, the same general location as Julia. Could some of these sounds be the mating calls of unknown sea monsters? Maybe one day. We will find out… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unexplained_sounds

10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

10 Creepy Sea Creatures You Didn't Know Existed

04:33
Did you know any of these amazing and scary deep sea creatures? It's hard to believe these bizarre animals exist. Subscribe: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg 'Hatchet Fish' footage by Filmic Art : www.filmicart.com For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: There is a vast world below the ocean that we have yet to discover in its entirety. While we seem to know nearly everything about the land, the sea still leaves much to be desired. As you go down into the depths of the ocean, you’ll notice a lot will change. For one, you’ll begin to be immersed in darkness. Second, the pressure will change. So, the creatures that have been discovered deep in the oceanic depths are quite different biologically, and they can be quite terrifying to look at. But once we begin to understand them, we can start to learn more about our existence, and even come closer to curing diseases and solving some of the world’s most complex mysteries. However, the sea creatures that have been discovered recently have shown to be just downright creepy and terrifying. You probably recall the Angler Fish, especially if you’re seen the Disney movie, “Finding Nemo”. If you didn’t realize that this fish is the real deal, get ready for new additions to your nightmares. It wasn’t a work of fiction or some messed up fantasy of some Disney Imagineer. The fish that we see in this video is actually female, and the male is a small weakling, wandering the sea to find a female with her pheromones. The male then attaches itself to the female and becomes a parasite. Every part of the male merges with the female except for the testicles, which the female uses to impregnate herself. Jokes aside, this is quite a fascinating process despite how creepy it is. Similar to the angler fish is the Viper Fish, which has a natural extra attachment that illuminates in the darkness of the sea with the purpose of attracting prey. The blob fish is a creature that you wonder what God was smoking or shooting up when he decided to create the blob fish. This fish has no bones, and literally just hangs out on the ocean floor and hopes that food comes to its mouth. Whether you want to worship the blob fish for its epic level of laziness or wonder how in the world the species is still in existence with such an apathetic demeanor, it’s still creepy to look at. Then we have the goblin shark, which is pretty much like the underwater version of the alien from the movie “Alien” due to its protruding mouth. The goblin shark has a large snout and needle-like teeth that are sharp and deadly. For a completely random sea creature, we have the Christmas Tree Worms, which really look like tiny walking fir trees that come in different colors. The branches or hair-like appendages help them breathe as well as consume phytoplankton. Then we have the sea pig, which looks nothing like the pigs we have on land. But instead the sea pig is a multi-tubed foot sea creature that is closely related to the sea cucumber. It eats by pulling water and absorbing organic food. Quite innovative, even though it looks creepy. For more creepy sea creatures, check out the rest of the video for more.
