The Largest Oil Rig in The World

19:43
Perdido is the deepest floating oil rig (platform) in the world at a water depth of about 2450 meters operated by the Shell Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico. The Perdido is located in the Perdido fold belt which is a rich discovery of crude oil and natural gas that lies in water that is nearly 8000 feet deep. The platform's peak production will be 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. At 267 meters, the Perdido is nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower. An oil rig is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well. World's Biggest Oil Platform Rigs 2017

05:24
Biggest Oil Platform Rigs in the World as of 2017 As oceans swell around them, some of the world's tallest manmade structures live in water, not on land. There's not a whole lot of variety when it comes to this manmade mammoths of the sea. Most of theses mega-builds draw oil from the depths, the only purpose as yet discovered that's lucrative enough to pay for their out-sized cost and complicated engineering. One more thing they have in common is that they all can wow with impressive size. We look at seven of the most intense and impressive offshore structures across the globe. [for text and creatives, http://loloha.com/biggest-oil-platform-rigs-in-the-world-as-of-2017/] Berkut While the Berkut oil platform toils in near anonymity in Russia's Far East, it does so with a heft unlike any other rig. At 200000 tons, the Bekut holds the record for the biggest in the world, above water. It can work under its own power down to minus-47 degrees Fahrenheit, withstand chunks of floating ice up to six feet thick and shake off waves up to 60 feet high. Stones While Berkut may prove the heftiest above the water, Stones, opened in September 2016 and operated by Shell, goes the deepest of any offshore structure, reaching a staggering 9,500 feet underwater. Located in the Gulf of Mexico, the Stones above-water structure—significantly more boat-like than your average oil rig—was built in Singapore before making the cross-ocean trip to its current location. There, it ties to two wells, with plans to expand to six over time. Stones uses a flexible "steel lazy wave riser" to carry oil and gas to the top, with the bend in the piping absorbing the motion of the structure. Perdido Until Stones opened just months ago, Perdido—also located in the Gulf of Mexico and operated by Shell—was the deepest of all the offshore structures, dropping its roots a dizzying 8000 feet (one and a half miles) underwater. Built in Finland before making its trek to about 200 miles south of Galveston, Texas, the main structure—which sits mostly underwater—stretches about 875 feet, about the same height as the Eiffel Tower. Olympus, or Mars B Weighing 120000 tons—more than 300 Boeing 747 jets—the 2014 built Olympus Mars B development in the Gulf of Mexico sits in 3,100 feet of water. From the base of the hull to the top of the derrick, Olympus is 406 feet tall and has a combined deck area of 342000 square feet, taller and with more floor area than the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Troll A The 1,548 foot tall Troll A platform off the west coast of Norway includes 1,210 feet of structure below the water's surface. Along with impressive height, when the platform moved over land into the North Sea in 1996 in a seven-day process, it became the largest object to ever be moved by man across the earth. Petronius If you're looking for tall oil rigs, look no further than the Gulf of Mexico where you'll find the Chevron-operated Petronius. The platform's piled tower design gives the whole structure a height of 2001 feet, but with only 246 feet visible above water. The 43000 ton structure hovers above the seabed which lays 1754 feet below, and the underwater structure can sway in excess of two percent of its height. Hibernia The world's first iceberg-resistant gravity-based structure, the Hibernia platform includes a 41000 ton topside facility mounted on a 660000 ton gravity base structure, which literally sits on the seabed. The largest offshore platform in Canada, the Hibernia can withstand a six-million-ton iceberg, and has an iceberg management system that works to detect the movements of incoming ice and alter its path away from the structure. Baldplate Located off the coast of Louisiana, Baldplate was the first ever free-standing offshore compliant tower. Designed by Hudson Engineering in Houston, Texas, Baldplate stands in an impressive 1,650 feet of water. Its production peak was reached in 1999. Blue Whale One China’s homemade deep-sea drilling platform. China’s sixth-generation homemade deep-sea semi-submersible drilling platform has successfully completed its deep-sea trial, local media reported, marking a further improvement in China’s capability of manufacturing high-end deep-water drilling rigs. With a length of 104.5 meters, a width of 70.5 meters and a height of 105.8 meters, the platform is able to operate in water depths up to 1500 meters and drill as deep as 9144 meters. It is so far the world’s most advanced drilling platform.

Troll A was built by Norwegian Contractors for Norske Shell, with base construction beginning in July 1991 at a cost of 4150 million NOK, or approximately US$650,000,000 at the time. The base and the deck were built separately, and were joined in 1995 while the base was partially submerged. The base is a Condeep gravity base structure built from reinforced concrete. The Troll A platform is a condeep offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. It is the tallest structure that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in history. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1996, where it is now operated by Statoil. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE for more documentaries like this one.

Towing Largest Oil Rig in History

03:37
☸ Oil platform was installed in 1988 by Shell in the Gulf of Mexico and was regarded as one of the most extraordinary engineering feats of the 20th century. The platform was nicknamed ‘Bullwinkle’ and was the world’s tallest oil rig at the time of construction. It is 150 ft taller than the Willis (Sears) Tower in Chicago and was built entirely in Texas before being towed, in one piece, 332 nautical miles to its final location. Bullwinkle used 10 times the amount of steel as the Eiffel Tower and weighed over 50,000 tonnes. Construction of the jacket alone took 2.5 years and to tow it out to sea, an 853 ft long barge—also world’s largest at the time—was constructed. The entire project took over 5 years and cost over $500 million in the 1980s. ⚓️ For more videos like this click like and subscribe ⚓️ 🔴Business contact: [email protected] You can find Us on: FB: https://www.facebook.com/thesealad YouTube: https://goo.gl/PcwM6k Google+:https://goo.gl/kHOOO9 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/thesealad Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSeaLad1 Seafarers Jobs: http://jobatseas.blogspot.com 🔴For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Watch more maritime videos on our channel: https://goo.gl/O7dM4Z Most expensive Yachts in the world https://youtu.be/clWFpZ7qTdQ Inside the Lifeboat https://goo.gl/A9yK64 Top 10 Biggest Ships in the World https://goo.gl/I8zTZk Ships 2017 - PC Game https://goo.gl/wNHfCi Copy Right Claim : Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Deepwater Horizon Disaster: Oil Rig Blast (2010)

11:25
At 9:45 P.M. CDT on 20 April 2010, during the final phases of drilling the exploratory well at Macondo, a geyser of seawater erupted from the marine riser onto the rig, shooting 240 ft (73 m) into the air. This was soon followed by the eruption of a slushy combination of mud, methane gas, and water. The gas component of the slushy material quickly transitioned into a fully gaseous state and then ignited into a series of explosions and then a firestorm. An attempt was made to activate the blowout preventer, but it failed. The final defense to prevent an oil spill, a device known as a blind shear ram, was activated but failed to plug the well. At the time of the explosion, there were 126 crew on board; seven were employees of BP, 79 of Transocean, there were also employees of various other companies involved in the operation of the rig, including Anadarko, Halliburton and M-I SWACO. Eleven workers were presumed killed in the initial explosion. The rig was evacuated, with injured workers airlifted to medical facilities. After approximately 36 hours, Deepwater Horizon sank on 22 April 2010. The remains of the rig were located resting on the seafloor approximately 5,000 ft (1,500 m) deep at that location, and about 1,300 ft (400 m) (quarter of a mile) northwest of the well. The resultant oil spill continued until 15 July when it was closed by a cap. Until that point the well was gushing at the seabed and causing the largest oil spill in U.S. waters. Relief wells were used to permanently seal the well, which was declared "effectively dead" on 19 September 2010. Deepwater Horizon was an ultra-deepwater, dynamically positioned, semi-submersible offshore oil drilling rig owned by Transocean. Built in 2001 in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries, the rig was commissioned by R&B Falcon, which later became part of Transocean, registered in Majuro, Marshall Islands, and leased to BP from 2001 until September 2013. In September 2009, the rig drilled the deepest oil well in history at a vertical depth of 35,050 ft (10,683 m) and measured depth of 35,055 ft (10,685 m)[10] in the Tiber Oil Field at Keathley Canyon block 102, approximately 250 miles (400 km) southeast of Houston, in 4,132 feet (1,259 m) of water.

Explosion in the North Sea Piper Alpha Disaster

46:13
Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE for more documentaries like this one. Piper Alpha was a North Sea oil production platform operated by Occidental Petroleum (Caledonia) Ltd. The platform began production in 1976, first as an oil platform and then later converted to gas production. An explosion and the resulting oil and gas fires destroyed it on 6 July 1988, killing 167 men, with only 61 survivors. The death toll includes two crewmen of a rescue vessel. Total insured loss was about £1.7 billion (US$3.4 billion). At the time of the disaster, the platform accounted for approximately ten percent of North Sea oil and gas production, and was the worst offshore oil disaster in terms of lives lost and industry impact. Learn Oil and Gas with Animations

03:33
- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips - Oil and gas are generated from a source rock, organic matter buried in the depths of the earth. Once formed, they climb back towards the surface. On their way, cap rocks can impede their progress and they accumulate in reservoir rocks. Here they constitute hydrocarbon fields, which can be identified by interpreting seismic data (a sort of echography). The data is obtained with the help of a seismic ship. To confirm the interpretations of seismic data, two types of drilling gear exist. Each is adapted to a range of depth of water (down to more than 2500 meters). The platform seen here is a semi-submersible, which floats and retains its stabilised position by means of anchors fixed on the seabed. Platforms at sea are used not only for drilling but also for the production of hydrocarbons. This production consists of the separation of oil, gas and water, before the oil and gas is taken by pipeline towards a mainland terminal. Where it is impossible or too expensive to link the field to the coast by a pipeline, an FPSO ship is used (Floating Production Storage and Offloading barge). Onboard, the hydrocarbons and the water are separated. The oil is stored prior to being loaded on tankers and the gas is re-injected into the reservoir rocks. Gas from a field is taken to land through an underground gasoduct to a processing plant. There, if the gas is to be transported by sea, it is converted into liquid obtained by cooling it down to --163°C. When it arrives at the plant terminal, the liquid natural gas (LNG) is returned to its gaseous state in a re-gasification plant, before being introduced into the local gasoduct network. The LNG is stored in tanks before re-gasification. The crude oil is transported in a petroleum tanker, the capacity of which can attain 200 000 tons. It is commonly called a "super- tanker". The terminals capable of receiving such giants are few and far between. The ships used to transport the crude oil produced on an FPSO ship are of a much smaller capacity. The crude oil, before being refined, is stored in the port in the large capacity tanks. The natural gas is preserved in reservoirs (artificial or natural). It is ready to be injected by pumping into the gasoduct network for industrial and domestic use or as fuel in power-generating stations. As far as the crude oil goes, it is transported by oleoduct to the refinery. There it undergoes a number of transformations and blending. A variety of finished products are obtained (LPG, petrol, kerosene, diesel ...), or naphtha, which will be used as the basis for the composition of plastic products by complex petroleum chemistry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips Twitter: https://twitter.com/oilvips And Don't forget to subscribe to our channel

Offshore Oil Rig Jobs, Typical day.

04:58
Oil Rig Jobs http://www.rigzone.com/oil/jobs/categories/drilling-rig-personnel-3/ https://www.airswift.com/as/oil-rig-job-vacancies/ Ensure you meet the minimum qualifications for employment on almost any oil rig. They are the following: You are over 18 years of age. You are very physically fit. You should also be mentally fit. You will be required to pass a physical exam before being hired. You are a non-smoker, and you can abstain from alcohol during your long 14 to 21 day shifts. You are willing and able to take on the unusual schedule of an oil rig worker. You should be open to working nights, and you should be able to work many days on end without weekend breaks. An oil rig is a manned platform used for land or off-shore drilling. An oil rig worker can denote an employee on either platform, responsible for a large number of duties associated with safely drilling for oil. The schedule for most workers consists of working 14 to 21 consecutive days before being given time off. As well as earning a wage, most offshore oil rig workers are provided food and board and some travel expenses. Getting your first job on an oil rig may be the toughest part of the process, because oil rig managers value experience.

Crude awakening: Romania's Black Sea oil and gas finds fuel Europe's energy hopes - reporter

08:31
Huge discoveries of oil and gas in the Black Sea off Romania have thrust the country back into the heart of the region's energy market. North Sea Oil - 1975

08:18
At Dyce near Aberdeen, Her Majesty the Queen presses the button that sends the first North Sea Oil flowing into the Grangemouth Refinery. It marks the fruition of years of research, technology, hard work and grim determination. From the Forties Field by under sea pipeline, a marvel itself in engineering, the oil comes ashore at Cruden Bay. It travels then by underground pipes to the BP Refinery at Grangemouth. To the people of Aberdeen oil has already meant a change in their life style, could it also be the turning point in Britain's economy. Prirazlomnoye oil field

05:26
The Prirazlomnoye oil field is situated 60km off the coast in the Pechora Sea. Recoverable reserves of oil at the deposit are in excess of 70 million tonnes. Gazprom Neft Shelf LLC is the project operator and subsurface licence holder. The Prirazlomnaya is a unique platform designed and built for Gazprom in Russia. The platform is intended for operation in extreme weather conditions, meets the strictest safety requirements and is capable of withstanding maximum ice loads. Extracted oil is stored in tanks situated in the platform caisson. Its three metre concrete walls are covered with a two-layer sheet of corrosion- and wear-resistant plated steel. The caisson has a capacity of approximately 94,000 tonnes of oil. The caisson's safety margin vastly exceeds actual loads. The platform also makes use of so-called "wet storage" of oil which prevents oxygen from entering containers, thereby preventing the accumulation of hazardous explosive mixtures. The platform has a zero discharge system that prevents drilling or production waste from being dumped into the sea. Waste is to be pumped into a special absorption well or, as necessary, collected in containers and transported to shore for subsequent disposal.
