Post them in the comments section below. --- Want to suggest a video for my Hibernate tutorial? Leave a comment below. I'm always looking for new video ideas. Let me know what video you'd like for me to create for this Hibernate tutorial. --- Hibernate Tutorial Transcript Hey. In this video, we're going to cover the Hibernate Configuration. Just a checkpoint here on our to do list, the first thing we need to do is set up our Hibernate Config file, annotate the Java class and develop the Java code. Right now, we're at step one of working on our Hibernate Configuration file. All right, now the configuration file basically tells Hibernate how to connect to the database. Again, remember that Hibernate uses JDBC in the background for communicating with the database. The bulk of the information that we'll have in a config file is that we'll actually have the JDBC configuration. We'll have the database URL, user ID, password and so on just to tell Hibernate how to connect to the database. Then we'll have some of those smaller config items. I'll show you that in a second. Let's go ahead and move into Eclipse. What we want to do is look at the source files that we downloaded for this tutorial. In our downloads folder, and I'll swing it here onto the screen here for a second, in our downloads folder we have this directory or folder here called "Starter Files." Inside of Starter Files we have a very basic Hibernate configuration file. It's called "HibernateConfig.xml." I'll go ahead and right click this file and copy it, and I'll actually paste it into my Eclipse environment. When I paste this file in Eclipse, I have to paste it at the root of the source directory. This makes it available for Hibernate to use it, because it has to be on the actual class path of your application. Here I'll paste it here on the source directory. You can put it in other locations, but to keep it simple, I'll just place it here at the root of our source directory. That's our HibernateConfig.xml. We can go ahead and double click this file and open it up and see what's inside. Here's our file. Near the bottom, click on the tab for "Source" so we can see a source code view of the config file. Let me expand this window here so we can see it full screen. Okay, great, so this is our Hibernate Configuration xml file. We have some parameters here set up for session factory. We'll talk more about session factory in a second. Basically session factory allows us to get session objects for connecting to the database. The most important items here are lines nine through thirteen, where we set up our JDBC database connection settings. Again, we simply go through, we tell Hibernate the actual driver class that we're going to use, the database URL, and the user ID and the password. This all should look familiar to you based on that previous example that we ran for our JDBC test. Again, the connection URL, we simply give local host 3306, HB student tracker, use SSL false. That's it. That basically tells Hibernate how to connect to our MySQL database. Hibernate also has a very basic JDBC connection pool. For our demos, we'll simply set the connection pool size to one because we'll simply run things as a simple Java app. I'll talk more about connection pooling later on when we move into some more advanced development. On lines 18 and 19, we set up our SQL dialect. SQL is a standard, however, as we know, each database has its own little twist on it or its own little dialect. Here we're going to make use of the MySQL dialect. When Hibernate generates the SQL, it knows how to talk to MySQL. They have dialects for each of the different databases, like Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, so on and so forth. This is enough here for connection to MySQL. Then on 21 and 22, I simply set up a configuration to show the SQL so when Hibernate executes, it'll actually print out the SQL that it's going to use when it sends it over to the actual database. This is very useful during development and testing, just to see what Hibernate's doing in the background. This is the end of the Hibernate tutorial transcript

Lesson - 27 : Hibernate - Built-in connection pooling in Hibernate

18:08
Hibernate – Built-in Connection Pooling in Hibernate: 1. If a java program wants to obtain a connection with a database then java API as provided or JDBC API as provided two ways. A) java.sql.DriverManager class B) javax.sql.DataSource interface 2. If a java program want to get direct connection with the database then we use DriverManager class. 3. The connection returned by DriverManager class is a nonreusable connection. The non reusable connections will increase the burden on a database. 4. To overcome the above problem we got connection pooling technique in java. 5. In connection pooling a group of reusable connections(pooled connections) are stored in a pool and the connections are provided to the clients whenever required. 6. To obtain a connection from a connection pool we use DataSource interface in a java program In hibernate connection pooling mechanism is divided into three types 1. Built-in connection pooling / jdbc connection pooling 2. Standalone connection pooing/Third party connection pooling 3. Server side connection pooling Built-in connection pooling / jdbc connection pooling : 1. Hibernate by default comes with automatic connection pool. This is also called jdbc connection pool. 2. As a programmer we are allowed to set the maximum pool size for hibernate built- in connection pool 3. If you want to set maximum pool size then we need to configure connection pool size property in hibernate.cfg.xml file 4. <property name=“hibernate.connection.pool_size”>10</property> 5. The built- in connection pool of hibernate is only for testing purpose, but it should not be used in real time application (production.system) Configurations: <hibernate-configuration> <session-factory> <property name="hibernate.connection.driver_class">oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.url">jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.pool_size">50</property> <mapping resource="Payment.hbm.xml"/> </session-factory> </hibernate-configuration> Hibernate Examples Project Github Link : https://github.com/SadaLearningHub1/Hibernate-Projects

The actual name of the package, I'll call it com.luv2code.jdbc. Once you're happy with that package name, go ahead and click on finish. Now what I would like to do is actually create a new class. Again, right click on that package name. I'll say New Class. The actual name that I'll use for this class, I'll call it Testjdbc. Just very simple, and to the point. I'll also check the low item here for public static void, just so I can have a main method for this program. Then again, hit on Finish. All right, great. We have a very basic program here and let's go ahead and dig in. Let's start writing some code. I have a very simple try catch block. I have catch exception EXC. I'll do the EXC.print stack trace in case something goes wrong. Hopefully not. What I'll do is I'll just set up some variables here for my database connection information. First off, I'll set up my JDBC URL. I'll call it JDBC:mysequel:localhost3306/ I give the name of my database scheme, which is hbstudenttracker. Here I'll say use SSL=false. Just so that I don't get that pesky SSL warning that my sequel introduced recently, which is really annoying. Anyway, use SSL will make that go away. All right, so that's how JDBC URL, our user ID that we created, and we did all this stuff in previous slides here. Our user is HBStudent. We have this very secure system where our password is the same as our username. Only for training purposes, right? Okay, good. All right, so our URL, user ID, and password, great. We can use this information to actually give us a connection to a database. All right. Here, I'm just mentioning again that use SSL as equals false as to get rid of that pesky my sequel SSL warnings. All right, great. Let's go ahead and write some code here. I'm going to make use of my driver manager to get a connection. I'll also do some system out print lines here to tell myself what's going on here. All right, so I'll say system out print line, connecting to database. I'll just drop in that JDBC URL. Then I'll attempt to get a connection. Here I'll say connectionmycon=, and then I say driver manager.getconnection. I pass in my JDBC URL, my user ID, and my password. If that works out fine, then we have a successful connection. I can print a statement here saying connection successful. Yah-hoo. I like to have fun with this stuff. All right, so that's the piece there. Now, we need to fix some of our imports here. I can just click on this red X. We need to do that import on java.sql, so choose the second option here. Import Connection, and java.sql. Select that item. Yeah, that takes care of the item then. We should be good to go here. All right, so just some very basic code here to test out our database connection. Let's go ahead and run this application. I just do a right click, Run As, Java Application. Then it's going to fire up, and say connection successful. Let me expand this window here, so you can see everything. Connecting to database, connection successful. This is great. This is just a confirmation that we have the correct URL, user ID, and password. Also, more importantly, is that JDBC driver that we have on our lib directory, is associated with our class path. Know that we can get a valid connection. [Snip] for complete transcript, select More ... Transcript This is the end of the Hibernate tutorial transcript.

Lesson - 69 : Hibernate - Mapping declaration(XML Tags)

43:29
Hibernate - Mapping declaration(XML Tags) : Doctype : All XML mappings should declare the doctype shown. The actual DTD can be found at the URL above, in the directory hibernate-x.x.x/src/org/hibernate , or in hibernate3.jar. Hibernate will always look for the DTD in its classpath first. If you experience lookups of the DTD using an Internet connection, check the DTD declaration against the contents of your classpath. <hibernate-mapping> : <hibernate-mapping schema="schemaName" catalog="catalogName" default-cascade="cascade_style" default-access="field|property|ClassName" default-lazy="true|false" auto-import="true|false" package="package.name" /> <class> : <class name="ClassName" table="tableName" discriminator-value="discriminator_value" mutable="true|false" schema="owner" catalog="catalog" proxy="ProxyInterface" dynamic-update="true|false" dynamic-insert="true|false" select-before-update="true|false" polymorphism="implicit|explicit" where="arbitrary sql where condition" persister="PersisterClass" batch-size="N" optimistic-lock="none|version|dirty|all" lazy="true|false" entity-name="EntityName" check="arbitrary sql check condition" rowid="rowid" subselect="SQL expression" abstract="true|false" node="element-name" /> <id> : <id name="propertyName" type="typename" column="column_name" unsaved-value="null|any|none|undefined|id_value" access="field|property|ClassName"> node="element-name|@attribute-name|element/@attribute|." <generator class="generatorClass"/> </id> <generator> : <generator class="org.hibernate.id.TableHiLoGenerator"> <param name="table">uid_table</param> <param name="column">next_hi_value_column</param> </generator> <composite-id> : <composite-id name="propertyName" class="ClassName" mapped="true|false" access="field|property|ClassName"> <key-property name="propertyName" type="typename" column="column_name"/> <key-many-to-one name="propertyName class="ClassName" column="column_name"/> ...... </composite-id> <discriminator> : <discriminator column="discriminator_column" type="discriminator_type" force="true|false" insert="true|false" formula="arbitrary sql expression" /> <version> : <version column="version_column" name="propertyName" type="typename" access="field|property|ClassName" unsaved-value="null|negative|undefined" generated="never|always" insert="true|false" node="element-name|@attribute-name|element/@attribute|." /> <timestamp> : <timestamp column="timestamp_column" name="propertyName" access="field|property|ClassName" unsaved-value="null|undefined" source="vm|db" generated="never|always" node="element-name|@attribute-name|element/@attribute|." /> <property> : <property name="propertyName“ column="column_name" type="typename" update="true|false" insert="true|false" formula="arbitrary SQL expression" access="field|property|ClassName" lazy="true|false" unique="true|false" not-null="true|false" optimistic-lock="true|false" generated="never|insert|always" node="element-name|@attribute-name|element/@attribute|." index="index_name" unique_key="unique_id" length="L" precision="P" scale="S" /> <many-to-one> : <many-to-one name="propertyName" column="column_name" class="ClassName" cascade="cascade_style "fetch="join|select" update="true|false" insert="true|false" property-ref="propertyNameFromAssociatedClass" access="field|property|ClassName" unique="true|false" not-null="true|false" optimistic-lock="true|false" lazy="proxy|no-proxy|false" not-found="ignore|exception" entity-name="EntityName" formula="arbitrary SQL expression" node="element-name|@attribute-name|element/@attribute|." embed-xml="true|false" index="index_name" unique_key="unique_key_id" foreign-key="foreign_key_name" /> <one-to-one> : <one-to-one name="propertyName" class="ClassName" cascade="cascade_style" constrained="true|false" fetch="join|select" property-ref="propertyNameFromAssociatedClass" access="field|property|ClassName" formula="any SQL expression" lazy="proxy|no-proxy|false" entity-name="EntityName" node="element-name|@attribute-name|element/@attribute|." embed-xml="true|false" foreign-key="foreign_key_name"/> <natural-id> : <natural-id mutable="true|false"/> <property ... /> <many-to-one ... /> ...... </natural-id> <component> : <component name="propertyName" class="className" insert="true|false" update="true|false" access="field|property|ClassName" lazy="true|false" optimistic-lock="true|false" unique="true|false" node="element-name|." > <property ...../> <many-to-one .... /> </component> <properties> : <properties name="logicalName" insert="true|false" update="true|false" optimistic-lock="true|false" unique="true|false"> <property ...../> <many-to-one .... /> </properties> Hibernate Examples Project Github Link : https://github.com/SadaLearningHub1/Hibernate-Projects

Lesson - 11 : Hibernate - Insert Record into DB using Annotation Configuration In Hibernate

24:18
1. Hibernate annotations are taken from JPA(JavaPersistanceAPI) given by sun micro system as of EJP 3.x. 2. All ORM tools like hibernate, IBATIS, JDO etc.. are provided annotations parsing code according to their framework for common JPA annotations. 3. The persistence annotation provided by JPA are common for all persistence frameworks. 4. If a developer is changing from one ORM tool to another then the annotations remains same in another ORM tool also so there will be no burden on programmer. 5. The JPA annotations are given in javax.persistance package. The following four annotations are commonly used in a pojo class of hibernate. 1. @Entity 2. @Table 3. @Id 4. @Column 1. @Entity and @Table are class level annotations. 2. @Id and @Column are the annotations can be applicable for either fields or methods. 3. Annotations are added to pojo class. So if any modifications are done in a pojo class then we need to recompile the pojo class again this is drawback of using annotations. 4. In real time applications annotations are used carefully in a project to avoid recompilations problem. 5. Heavy use of annotations and heavy use of xml both are going to produce problems. So in industry applications development we should use annotations and xml combinedly in a project. 5. If annotations and hbm file are written in hibernate application then hbm file overrides annotations. It means hbm file meta data is executed. 6. In configuration file of hibernate in place of <mapping resource="hbm file tag"/> tag replace attribute with class attribute<mapping class="pojo class name"/> Hibernate Examples Project Github Link : https://github.com/SadaLearningHub1/Hibernate-Projects

Lesson - 28 : Hibernate - Third party connection pooling in Hibernate

28:25
Server side connection pooling Standalone connection pooing/Thirdparty connection pooling Hibernate has recommended to use one of the following two third party connection pool. When hibernate is used in a standalone or desktop project in java 1. C3p0 connection pool 2. Proxool connection pool C3p0 connection pool Configuration : <hibernate-configuration> <session-factory name=""> ... <property name="hibernate.connection.provider_class">org.hibernate.connection.C3P0ConnectionProvider</property> <property name="hibernate.c3p0.max_size">10</property> <property name="hibernate.c3p0.min_size">3</property> ... </session-factory> </hibernate-configuration> C3p0 connection pool : 1. Cp0is an open source third party connection pool maintained by sourceforege.net. 2. If we configure c3p0 connection pool related properties in hibernate.cfg.xml file then internally hibernate itself creates a c3p0 connection pool and obtains connections from that pool . 3. The c3p0 connection pool properties required in hibernate.cfg.xml file are A) hibernate .connection.provider_classs B) hibernate.c3p0.min_size C) hibernate.c3p0.max_size 4. <property name=' hibernate .connection.provider_class'>org.hibernate.connection.c3p0ConnectionProvider</property> <property name=' hibernate.c3p0.min_size'>3</property> <property name=' hibernate.c3p0.max_size'>10</property> 5. To test c3p0 connection poolin a hibernate application do the following A) In hibernate.cfg.xml file of fist application(application1), add the above c3p0 connection pool properties. B) set c3p0-version.jar in classpath apart from the remaining jar files of hibernate. Proxool connection pool Configuration : <hibernate-configuration> <session-factory name=""> ... <property name="hibernate.proxool.xml">Proxool</property> <property name="hibernate.proxool.pool_alias">abcd</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.provider_class">org.hibernate.connection.ProxoolConnectionProvider</property> ... </session-factory> </hibernate-configuration> 1. It is another third party connection pool maintained by sourceforege.net. 2. This third party connection pool is also internally created by hibernate but we need to configure it's required properties into hibernate.cfg.xml. 3. In proxool connection pool we need to construct a separate xml file with anyname.xml and we need to configure the following information in that xml file. A) Pool alias name. B) Connection properties C) Maximum pool size 4. In proxool, minimum pool size is always 1. it is not possible to set user defined minimum size of the pool. 5. In hibernate.cfg.xml file, we need to configure the following proxool related properties A) hibernate.proxool.xml B) hibernate.proxool.pool_alias C)hibernate.connection.provider_class Hibernate Examples Project Github Link : https://github.com/SadaLearningHub1/Hibernate-Projects
