Blue Origin's New Partnership with PARC, an R&D Services Company
I’m going to talk about Blue Origin’s partnership with research and development services company PARC. Welcome to NeoScribe, if you’re new to my channel, I explore everything that is cool about the future so hit the subscribe button and notification bell so you do miss out! Alright, before we get started, lets talk about Research and Development or R&D. A company’s success and continued success relies on R&D. This is because R&D leads to new products, services or processes. While this may seem critical for mostly tech companies, just about every industry pours resources into R&D. Take the personal care industry for instance, this is a Quilted Northern toilet paper Ad from the 1930’s. Look at the upper right corner, SPLINTER FREE!? Yes, before the 30’s it was common to get splinters from TP. And thanks to R&D, we don’t have to worry about splinters with today’s TP. But as the world and world of business becomes more complex, managing R&D investments have become complex as well. Companies today don’t blindly fund R&D like they did before. They now track and measure the success of their R&D efforts, or return on investment. Because not all R&D efforts lead to profitable products or improvements of products and spending on R&D can be risky for some companies. So, when companies want to invest in R&D in areas that are outside of their expertise or smaller companies who want to minimize risk with R&D, they can look to PARC to help them with their R&D efforts. PARC was founded in 1970 and is an independent subsidiary company of Xerox, headquartered out of Palo Alto California. They provide custom R&D services, to Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, startups, and government agencies. They have over 175 world-class Scientist, own 2,000 patents while filing over 150 patents per year, and have written over 4,000 scientific papers. PARC’s Motto is the business of breakthroughs, and according to their brochure: PARC offers the holistic approach you need with the right balance of knowledge and pragmatic action to get more from your innovation dollar. Explore business model implications and the full range of disruptive advances across physical, social, and computer sciences. Over the years, PARC has invented or involved in the invention of many products. But the most impressive or ground-breaking invention was the Xerox Alto computer. The Xerox Alto was the first computer to have a graphical user interface operating system, or GUI. Before GUI’s like windows and Mac OS, computers were not as user friendly and ran on command line interfaces which had a steeper learning curve than simply double-clicking icons. MobiDev - Your Software Development Partner
We are experts in multiplatform development (building one app that covers all platforms) and native development (separate apps for each platform). Our goal is to help you launch a successful high-quality product. We believe that you are interested in creating a product just as much as evolving it over time. And we are ready to help you with that. Here's what our clients say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_TEoiyUtz8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FzIRkNbHjc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_laO87QrU4 It's owing to successful projects that we are #1 on Elance. We developed: 1. Several social networks – we know such software inside out, being fully aware of major pitfalls, technical subtleties, and protection of users' personal data. We believe that design must be attractive to produce the wow-effect; the interface must be catchy and intuitive to engage the user at once. 2. Mobile CRM – a system that's simple and easily understandable on the first try. The primary criterion was security: while all the data must be stored on the server side, the database of clients is confidential and must be protected. 3. Cloud ERP system with a custom online shop, mobile client app and POS access point. The system is designed for small and midsize retailers in HORECA and e-commerce. The primary criterion was reliability and faultless work with external equipment (e.g. barcode scanners, receipt printers, cash registers), because the system directly works with finances and large databases of commodities, which distinguish bars, shops, and restaurants. 4. Internal product for a large healthcare complex. The goal was to mobilize the activities of the staff and eliminate the paperwork. That's why simplicity and understandability of the interface is handled easily by both new and experienced users. The app had to be used on any available device/platform. It was implemented with PhoneGap; the use of RAD.js ensured high responsiveness of the product. 5. Readers for standard formats and for those which involve difficulties. We wrote our own algorithm for displaying epub3: a format that allows publishers to produce and spread digital publication in one file, which is typical for digital books and other publications with responsive design, including vector graphics, built-in fonts, and stylesheets. We had lots of other interesting, challenging, successfully completed projects. Our apps are award-winners, and we'd love to create a winner for you. We speak at Conferences We are often invited to participate in international conferences and share our experience. We gladly accept all invitations because we understand the importance of the branch and contribute to its evolution. Here are several conferences we attended: - Mobile App Europe 2014 (Berlin) - HTML5DevConf 2014 (San Francisco) - CeBIT 2014 (Hannover) - Droidcon 2013 (Amsterdam) Our Toolset for Html app We created our own framework for speeding up cross-platform apps and boosting their performance. It's called RAD.js and is available for all developers. RAD.js allows to create apps with native-like responsiveness by HTML/JS technologies. Web site: http://rad-js.com/ You can find an example here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.mobidev.crosswalk.property&hl=en About our Team Our developers are stationed in our offices, so there are no risks as for communication. You may visit us and meet your developers in person. Our project managers are certified Scrum masters. Having guided projects of over 2,000 man hours, they are always ready to consult you on complicated and ambiguous issues. As a rule, we apply Agile methodology; it allows our clients to change requirements timely and stay at the cutting edge of both business and technology. It's especially interesting for startups and software owners who aspire to be at the cutting edge. How we will create you product Our work process is certified with ISO 9001:2008 and undergoes the following stages: 1. Clarifying and testing requirements; 2. Creating and analyzing UX/UI design; 3. Planning the project and creating the architecture; 4. Programming / testing; 5. Final testing; 6. Production. Our QA engineers are certified ISTQB specialists; this ensures the highest quality of your product from both technical and user's point of view. Payment Terms We employ hourly billing, according to the amount of time spent by the team. Billing period can be defined as one week via Elance payment system. Total amount equals spent time multiplied by our hourly rate.

The Role of Intellectual Property in Product Development
Promoting Successful Translational Research: http://launchpad.ucsf.edu. Dr. Karin Immergluck, Associate Director of Licensing at UC San Francisco's Office of Innovation, Technology and Alliances, describes intellectual property (IP) and its role in supporting the development of novel technologies invented by university researchers. In healthcare product development, IP represents an invaluable asset for innovators by creating critical barriers to entry for competitors. Without a clear and tangible hurdle to entry, even the most beneficial product will struggle to attract the investment and partnerships crucial to the development and commercialization of healthcare products. LaunchPad is an online resource designed to highlight the experiences and accomplishments of translational researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and to support them in their efforts to develop beneficial medical products. LaunchPad features videos of investigators, administrators and industry experts sharing their experiences working through five keys to successful translational research—unmet needs, target product profile, collaboration, development plan and organizational support, as well as other resources for researchers. LaunchPad is a project of the Early Translational Research (ETR) program of UCSF's Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) - grant Number UL1 TR000004. 14 Difference Between Business Development and Sales
1. Business development refers to activities designed to expand your organization's reach into a new market. 2. Sales is responsible for selling a specific product or service, with a clear price and value, to an identifiable individual customer. 3. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: The objective is not revenue generation, but finding the right product-market fit. 4. The role of sales is to sell a product directly to the end consumer, whereas, when it comes to business development, its role is to sell the product through a partner in a scalable way. 5. Being a sales professional means being a numbers guy and selling your soul to metrics and percentages. Business development professionals rely on a curated network of personal relationships that usually buy a specific product category that they lean on for their entire career. 6. Nature: SALES Transactional BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Relational 7. Function: SALES Selling product BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Selling solutions 8. The focus of "bizdev" is on new and atypical, interactions with external partners - who are not customers or sales prospects.  9. Sales staff in a company tends to grow rapidly with time. But business development teams are relatively smaller and prefer to maintain a small size. 10. Time horizon: SALES: Short term BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: Long term 11. sales is a function where the end result is cash.  In business development, the end result is a new channel for sales to occur in. 12. Associated with: SALES: Execution of plan BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: Devising, focusing and assessing of a plan 13. Business development is about convincing another company to partner with you or do something that they don't have to do but that is likely mutually beneficial. 14. Seek for SALES: Distribution of goods and services BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: Business expansion

How to avoid the pitfalls of Product Development | Philips Innovation Services
Philips Innovation Services can help you uncover the three main pitfalls of Product Development, and build a more successful product. Find out how now: https://www.innovationservices.philips.com/startup-ventures/ Building a successful product means dodging the unknown dangers of product development. Philips Innovation Services can help uncover the three main pitfalls that could stunt your product’s growth. ____ Pitfall #1 – Thinking you know your market well enough Hoping your product has potential is different to knowing its value to your customers. Even if your product could help customers, certain regulations may stop you selling it to them. Solution – Understand your market, not just your product. Focus on the value of your product, and understand the risks of the regulatory system it will be part of. ____ Pitfall #2 – Taking short cuts Imagine exploring a corridor full of doors that slowly narrows. The doors are the different decisions you could take. Don’t rush ahead and ignore important decisions – you can hit a dead end, and it can be expensive to go back. Solution – Seek out and face your potential challenges head on. Thinking you can solve problems later is risky. Address potential issues early, while you have time and money. _____ Pitfall #3 – Getting too attached to your prototype Your first idea won’t be your best idea. Don’t fall in love with it, as your end product will look very different. Solution – Have an open and explorative mind. By the time something gets to market (which could take years) demand may have changed. Develop a prototype that offers flexibility, while you discover what the market wants. Together, we won’t just get your product to market – we’ll make sure you develop the best possible product for your customers. Don’t be scared of uncertainty. Embrace it, as soon as possible. Good luck!
Housing Partners - New Product Development
John Carthew, our Head of Product, leads the ‘Plant A Seed’ new product development programme. If you have an idea, he and his team will work with you to evaluate it honestly. If it’s got potential, we’ll work in partnership with you to build it quickly. John says, “Housing Partners is the pot full of peat that you can put your good idea seed in, and it will develop into an idea that we will share with you and take out into the sector.” Fed up working with spreadsheets? Or have you got a software idea that you think could really make a difference? Want to work in partnership with an organisation to take your idea forward? As our name suggests, Housing Partners was created to work together with the housing sector in building software solutions to help RPs and LAs support their tenants. We understand that the people who know just what’s needed are the ones who are working in the sector day in, day out. We can help turn the beginnings of an idea, or a complicated make-do spreadsheet or paper-based system, into software that works smoothly for everyone. While our partners from the sector (that’s people like you!) are best placed to provide the expertise about exactly what the software should do, we like to think we’re the perfect choice to make this happen. Our core values, our track record in using the most modern techniques and our excellent capabilities speak for themselves. We’re very proud of our latest partnership, where we were chosen by the National Practitioner Support Service (NPSS) to work with them in creating Housing Jigsaw (read more here: link to Progress through Partnership) If you have an idea – or even the beginnings of one – contact us today. We can take it, put it in a Housing Partners ‘pot’ and see if we can help you grow it into something special. ‘Plant A Seed’ – Could our next partnership be with you?

Shiratech, Fast Forward Product Development
Three new products in three months’ time Where is the heart of your company? What is the place where new and innovative products first see the light? Talking with Ishay Kokavka (CEO), it is clear that Shiratech is exactly at the heart of developments. As part of the AY Electronics group, Shiratec takes care of new product development for all the different departments and clients of the group. With development teams in Russia, Israel and India and strong partnerships with companies like Analog, STMicroelectronics and NXP, Shiratech is in a good position to do rapid development. The company gained their experience with the development of Smarc (Smart Mobility ARChitecture) and designing boards for the 96Board communities. “Very fast development is our big advantage”, explains Ishay Kokavka, “With the teams we have in the different countries we can do developments in 3 to 4 months’ time, we have all the expertise in house.” Shiratech is showing three new products at the Embedded World 2019 edition in Nuremberg. The first one is a bodycam project, which has a camera and other sensors inside that allow security people to record and communicate data in case of emergencies. It offers live streaming and analytics, and because it is an open platform it allows you to develop your own specific applications or analytics. The device can communicate through WiFi, Bluetooth and 4G and provides continuous live streaming to a control centre. The second product Shiratech developed, together with Analog and Arrow, will allow companies to do preventive maintenance on their installations. The product has four sensors (temperature, acceleration, magnetic and acoustic) that can create a profile of the machine or motor in operation. These profile data can be monitored and compared with previous collected data or data received from identical machines. The profile will tell you if the system needs repairs or is ready for maintenance. This product can be connected with, for example, a motor and keep a close eye on its performance. With this solution you can reduce costs of maintenance and create an industrial environment with a guaranteed high uptime. The third product is a full home automation solution that will help you keep your house and the people living in it safe. Inside the box the electronics use the same format as the 98board and uses a mezzanine to add new functionalities. The systems uses sensors and microphones to monitor the house or premises. The integrated microphones can be programmed to communicate, for example with elders in case of an emergency. You can use it as a baby monitor, or any other application that requires vocal contact between a control centre and the home. “The most important message is that we developed these products in three months and that we can be trusted as a production partner. Other companies trust us and they know they can expect new products within a very short timeframe”, explains Ishay Kokavka. “The next step is to find new partners that can open up new markets and do the actual sales of the product.” The interview was recorded at the Embedded World 2019. How to be a Successful Outsourced Development Partner | Web Essentials
Multiple companies on one project? We show you how you can contribute the most as an outsourced development team. Find out more about how we work here: https://www.web-essentials.co/ Transcript: Web Essentials has many years' experience working with web companies in Europe as a trusted outsourced development partner. One of the challenges in cross-company collaboration is how to slot together both in-house and outsourced resources. So at the proposal stage of any new project, we set up a meeting with the client via our Swiss Office to determine how we can create synergies between our teams. For example, for one partner we investigated their previous project approaches and adapted our continuous deployment framework to make it easier for their inhouse development and design team to deploy changes themselves. When another partner was lacking project management experience one of our project managers stepped in to provide a framework for their product development using our expertise in Agile SCRUM. But we have also gone beyond supporting the technical team and given support to management regarding )sales strategy and business analysis. When a customer was running short on budget we crafted a proposal to demonstrate the high value of the project and release more funds. In return our team have been exposed to how different companies operate, and have proven their flexibility in using new tools and processes. Web Essentials complements existing teams and processes and support the customer as a peer rather than a supplier. Being able to constantly tailor our skills and expertise to each partner has allowed us to build successful partnerships with our clients.
