These babies are capable of drifting thousands of miles on ocean currents, far from the reefs where they were born. Amy McDermott describes how these tiny trekkers travel across vast oceans, searching for the far-flung reefs they will one day call home. Lesson by Amy McDermott, animation by Reflective Films.

You won't believe that fishermen actually caught these gigantic sea monsters! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg SyFy recently aired the third film in their so-bad-its-good “Sharknado” series, prompting some to wonder if airborne, tornado-based sharks could actually be real. Okay, so no one is really wondering that. Still, though, the ocean continues to represent a great unknown to us, providing home to countless species, many of which remain a mystery to humanity. The more we learn about what lurks deep below the surface, the more we realize still remains uncovered. With two-thirds of the Earth’s surface covered in water, it stands to reason that a great deal of that space remains unexplored. Of course, just because humankind hasn’t covered every iota of ground along the ocean floor, it doesn’t mean that those areas are uninhabited. All we know for sure is that the truly deepest depths of the world’s oceans continue to offer surprises, even as scientific technology becomes increasingly advanced. New species unlike any others known before are routinely discovered, with entirely new and alien biomes in extreme environments that no life had even been thought possible have challenged our very notions of what life is and how it has evolved. Amidst the cold darkness of a low-lying ocean area with depths that no sunlight can penetrate lies an alien world of incredibly rare and mysterious species. While many are simple, harmless omnivores, they share the ocean floor with some pretty unsettling forces. These ocean-based creatures – those that we know about, anyway – change everything we think we know about fish. Each one has at least one predominant feature that stands out as being unlike anything seen before. Think you know sharks? Well, how about one with a saw-like nose or a frilly, eel-like body. Think you’ve seen some big fish? How about a 17-metre long swimmer or a 900-pound squid or even a 5,000-pound behemoth sunfish? Lurking within the ocean are a number of deadly, threatening, vicious creatures that are naturally designed and programmed to hunt and stalk their prey. Thankfully, most of these monsters live at pressures that humans could never survive at – not that they would survive long down there, anyway. In recent years, Hollywood has sparked a fascination with zombies, aliens and other forces that exist beyond the realms of our planet and that are not steeped in reality. Despite that, some of the strangest and most terrifying creatures in the universe lie beneath the surface of bodies of water with which we are, at least partially, familiar. As we sit on a beach staring out at the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean, we remain blissfully oblivious to all that lurks within. This list seeks to open the door to an entire world of deep sea activity, featuring a cast of creepy and spooky characters that few even know exist. These 10 fish, some of whom may seem to be borne out of your darkest nightmares, are all very real and may give you second thoughts the next time you foray into the ocean. And these are just the ones we know about… Check out these other awesome videos! 10 Shockingly Large Creatures That Actually Exist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9odlL5Ti3dc 10 Things That Will Happen When Humans Go Extinct https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ml_awEqbEE Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRichest.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRichest_Com Instagram: http://instagram.com/therichest For more videos and articles visit: http://www.therichest.com/

Silver Plaque, Chicago Film Festival, USA, 1980 Director's Prize, Tours Film Festival, France, 1980 Special Mention, Barlin Film Festival, Germany, 1980 Aside from its story, this film has some historic significance, as it was shot all on location in Cardiff during the very last years of the old Tyger Bay landscape, industry and community, just before 'slum clearance' and factory closures eliminated the old social landscape, to be replaced in the seventies and eighties by a glossy new Cardiff Bay.

By now you've probably heard the phrase that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the bottom of the ocean. In fact, more humans have walked on the surface of the moon than have reached the deepest parts of the ocean floor (the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench of the Pacific Ocean). To be honest, only 4 descents have ever been achieved in this nearly 11km deep hole in the ocean floor. Even to this day we don't have exact measurements of its depth or what (if anything) actually lives at such depths. The secret lives of fish if you will. And why is this? Well, it may sound stupid, but for one thing, we can actually see the moon from Earth. Yes, at a very fundamental level, it is cheaper and simpler to study the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean. Galileo could easily examine the stars and map the surface of the moon. Examine underwater volcanos and map the bottom of the ocean? Not so much. It's simply a matter of accessibility. These days, however, things are changing. There are more and more expeditions into the ocean's depths and what they are bringing back can be quite interesting. Trailer for Fish Tale: My Secret Life as Plankton, a finalist in the 2012 BLUE Ocean Film Festival's Online Dot Docs category. Narrated by a red snapper on the ice at a fish market, this six-minute film transports the viewer into the secret, sensational life of a common food fish. It introduces a cast of gorgeous, rarely-filmed, planktonic characters, capturing their beauty and antics in spectacular resolution. From microscopic crustacean larvae to massive jellies called siphonophores, we learn the pivotal role plankton play in the lives of so many ocean creatures. Along the way, we glean a sense of the tremendous adventures wild fish experience before they end up on the ice. This film is the first installment of an ongoing series for TEDed entitled: Stories from the Sea created by Tierney Thys. Drawing from the landmark Plankton Chronicles project (planktonchronicles.org), this episode was created by Tierney Thys, Christian Sardet (CNRS/Tara Oceans), Noé Sardet and Sharif Mirshak (Parafilms).

Do you ever wonder what lives at the bottom of the mariana trench? This top 10 list of creepy deep sea monsters has some giant and bizarre creatures that are scary and mysterious! Frilled Shark The frilled shark has been around a long, LONG time. They’re ‘living fossils’, thought to have been swimming around for anywhere between 95 and 300 million years! Also while they were first discovered in approx 1880 they weren’t actually described until 2004 (the same ROV mission as the barreleye fish). This is one predator that really knows how to keep its head down. It lives at a depth of over 5,000 ft (1524 m). 9. Hatchet Fish Okay so if you came face to face with this dude you’d get one hell of a shock right? Meet the deep sea hatchet fish, so called because of its metallic, hatchet-shaped appearance. It can be found 5,000 ft (1,524 m) down. The metal like quality comes from its scales which is just as well because if it weren’t so shiny you’d have trouble seeing it! 8. Seadevil Anglerfish You’ve probably seen this one in the movies. A seadevil anglerfish appeared in Finding Nemo and the image has been used in some high profile shows like The Simpsons. They were first described in 1864 and can live at a depth of over 6,000 feet (1900 m). Like many deep sea species its movements are mysterious to experts and the only one filmed alive was in 2014. 7. Telescope Octopus Some deep sea animals like to take it easy, I mean there’s a lot of pressure down there!! Maybe none more so than the telescope octopus. Living anywhere from 500 - 6,500 ft (150 - 2000 m) below the surface it’s really laid back. In fact that’s literally what it does… lie back and use its eyes to look up for any food swimming by. 6. Benthocodon Usually when you think of a jellyfish you think of a transparent wobbly thing that stings your foot. Well not this one. The benthocodon isn’t transparent. It has a round, red top which is 2 - 3 cm in diameter and it won’t sting you unless you run into it 2,500 ft (762 m) below the surface. You’d have to be pretty crazy to be at that depth and even crazier without any flippers! 5. Barreleye Fish This fish with a transparent head shocked viewers when it appeared on Blue Planet! Also known as a “spookfish” it has a jelly-like forehead that allows it to look up through its skull, giving it greater visibility! Pretty freaky huh? It is a very efficient hunter that can live at a depth of at least 2,600 feet (800 m) and can be anywhere from 15 to 40 cm long. 4. Goblin Shark This shark is one ugly shark, hence why we call it the goblin shark! Of course I wouldn’t say that to its face poor thing! But its sword-like snout and prehistoric appearance makes it truly unique. 3. Zombie Worm Zombie worms, also known as bone-eating worms, were discovered by accident in 2002 when they appeared to be drilling into the skeletons of dead animals like whales and fish. This confused experts because they looked too squishy to be able to drill like that, but that is how they got their name. The answer came later on in 2012. 2. Foraminifera Foraminifera or ‘fora’ are tiny organisms from the ‘protist’ family. They vary between 100 micrometers and around 20 cm. Because many of them are so small and I’m guessing chewy, they are a prime source of food in the Mariana Trench. That’s a shame because there’s a lot more to these little things than meets the eye. 1. Ping Pong Tree Sponge The strangest name on our list is also the nastiest! Sure, Ping Pong Tree Sponge sounds like something out of Spongebob Squarepants and it’s one beautiful-looking life form. But despite this charming exterior this isn’t a thing to be messed with! It lives nearly 9000 ft (2743 m) underwater and if you’re a small creature it spells bad news. "In the Book of Changes it is said: Heaven created water through the One. That is the true power of the Great One. If a man attains this One he becomes alive; if he misses it he dies. But even if a man lives in the power (chi, prāṇa) he does not see the power, just as fishes live in water but do not see the water. A man dies when he has no chi, just as the fishes are destroyed when deprived of water. Therefore the adepts have taught the people to hold fast to the primal and to guard the One; it is the circular course of the Light and the protection of the center. If one guards this true power, one can prolong the span of life, and can then apply the methods of creating an immortal body by “melting and mixing”. The term "plankton" describes a wide range of critters with one thing in common, they can't swim against ocean currents. Despite their micro size, they are extremely important to understand as many economically and ecologically important animals start their lives out in the plankton stage! Scientists use specialized nets and cameras to learn more about them and how they're distributed throughout the water column. The family of the jellyfish or medusae are not only the most venomous ocean inhabitants but also some of the deepest divers. Medusae have been found as deep as 8.300 meters. Their existence is paramount to the oceans. Many of the large migrations of fish and mammals would not be possible without the existence of jellies. They are a crucial part of the food chain, many fish feed on jellies and in turn mammals or larger migratory predators feed on fish. The scientist Gerhard Jarms of the Zoological Institute of the University of Hamburg takes us on a journey into the exotic world of jellyfish. He is one of the most renowned medusae scientists in the world. Our expedition begins in the northern Atlantic where we will find the mysterious periphylla. We will continue on to the Azores in the Atlantic. There we will search for the XY jellies that seek shelter in caves in rough seas. In the Pacific we will swim with the jellies in the famous Jellyfish Lake and last but not least we will explore some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs of western Papua. And at the very end danger lurks around every corner as we set out to search off Australia's coast for the fatal sea wasp- one of the most poisonous ocean inhabitants. But when an Antarctic ice shelf the size of Manhattan collapsed in less than a month in 2002, it shocked scientists and raised the alarming possibility that Antarctica may be headed for a meltdown. Even a 10 percent loss of Antarctica's ice would cause catastrophic flooding of coastal cities unlike any seen before in human history. What are the chances of a widespread melt? "Secrets Beneath the Ice" explores whether Antarctica's climate past can offer clues to what may happen. NOVA follows a state-of-the-art expedition that is drilling three-quarters of a mile into the Antarctic seafloor. The drill is recovering rock cores that reveal intimate details of climate and fauna from a time in the distant past when the Earth was just a few degrees warmer than it is today. As researchers grapple with the harshest conditions on the planet, they discover astonishing new clues about Antarctica's past—clues that carry ominous implications for coastal cities around the globe. documentary 2018, documentary music, documentary space, documentary song, documentary war, documentary crime, documentary channel, documentary ww2, documentary science, documentary hd, documentary, documentary now, documentary about, documentary ancient, documentary aliens, documentary animal, documentary america, documentary art, documentary about god, documentary amazon, documentary about love, documentary ai, a documentary film, a documentary about depression, a documentary about life, a documentary story of the buddha's life, a documentary of prostitution area in bangladesh, a documentary about space, a documentary about the important things, a documentary about canada, a documentary on school dress code, a documentary about animals, documentary bbc, documentary best, documentary bible, documentary bigfoot, documentary brain, documentary business, documentary bangla, documentary babies, documentary brazil, documentary birds, max b documentary, proxima b documentary, r&b documentary, group b documentary, doe b documentary, lil b documentary, mel b documentary, plan b documentary, bun b documentary, b.o.b documentary, documentary china, documentary cars, documentary columbine, documentary cia, documentary children, documentary cold war, documentary culture, documentary cats, documentary comedy, pimp c documentary, andy c documentary, b b c documentary, vitamin c documentary, hep c documentary, d.o.c documentary, hepatitis c documentary, lady c documentary, paul c documentary, washington d.c documentary, documentary death, documentary demons, documentary disaster, documentary dubai, documentary disease, documentary dreams, documentary discovery, documentary dw, documentary documentary, documentary dmt, tenacious d documentary, heavy d documentary, vitamin d documentary, keefe d documentary, initial d documentary, winky d documentary, chuck d documentary, stevie hyper d documentary, lavish d documentary, 1st sfod-d documentary, documentary earth, documentary egypt, documentary economy, documentary eminem, documentary evil, documentary editing, documentary ethiopia, documentary el chapo, documentary english, documentary elon musk, e documentary series boulevard of broken dreams, e documentary selena gomez, eazy e documentary, a&e documentary full episodes, eazy e documentary 2015, jonbenet a&e documentary, poi e documentary, a&e documentary serial killers, maersk triple e documentary, formula e documentary, documentary food, documentary for kids, documentary films, documentary future, documentary fbi, documentary fish, documentary funny, documentary fast, documentary fat, documentary fashion, b.m.f documentary, terminal f documentary, christiane f documentary, f 35 documentary, f 22 raptor documentary, f-14 tomcat documentary, f-16 documentary, f 15 documentary, f scott fitzgerald documentary, f 18 documentary, documentary gangs, documentary ghost, documentary god, documentary gay, documentary guns, documentary gangland, documentary government, documentary greece, documentary giants, documentary gucci, king lil g documentary, warren g documentary, triple g documentary, b.g documentary, kap g documentary, becky g documentary, kenny g documentary, p&g documentary, tom g documentary, ali g documentary, documentary hindi,

The thoughts of a mind that has had time on the water to think... People often ask where I fish. I politely tell them that I don't divulge my spots, because I believe that by doing so I rob them of the joy of searching and finding, but also because those spots are special to me, and probably to someone else too, so I keep them a secret. Our planet offers a great flora and fauna. Especially the amazon is the home for various different kind of animals. Here are some of the most bizarre discoveries in the amazon. Subscribe to World5List http://goo.gl/cpJSA6 Bizarre Amazon Discoveries If you’re venturing to a part of the world with the most unique species of animal on the planet, you’re probably in for some interesting finds. Coming up… Gigantic snakes, parasitic fish, running lizards, and more. Join us as we explore some of the most bizarre Amazon discoveries. Caiman To start things off, the apex predator of the Amazon river is a strange creature, but it’s by no means safe from other predators in this intense jungle. The black caiman is essentially a gigantic alligator. Green Anaconda With all of the biodiversity and incredibly variations of flora and fauna in the Amazon, it’s not surprising to find that the largest snake in the world calls this place home. Arapaima If you’re worried about swimming in piranha infested waters, you might reevaluate your list of fears with our next discovery. The Arapaima is a carnivorous fish that takes up just a bit more space than the piranhas. Giant Otter When you see a family of otters playing around in a river, or even the ocean, often you first thought might be “how cute.” This is at least partly because the otters are small. The amazon is home to the largest species of this marine mammal, the aptly-titled “giant otter.” Candiru Not everything that’s terrifying in the amazon is giant… though admittedly, most creatures are. The candiru are tiny parasitic fish that work to latch themselves onto larger fish’s gills to feast. Bull Sharks When you’re spending all of your time worrying about the dangers of the Amazon, you might not get to fully experience the beauty and importance of the river... Electric Eels Okay, so now you’re getting concerned about being bitten, strangled, or crushed. Another, much less conventional thing to worry about with regards to Amazonian animals. Glass Frog Camouflage is a useful survival tactic for creatures that get fed upon, but sometimes in the Amazon this technique leads to interesting consequences. The glass frog is technically green, but if you were to see a specimen, that’s probably not the first thing you’d think. Decoy Building spider When threatened, many creatures on the planet like to make themselves look big, so as to scare away would-be predators. Cats raise their backs, some lizards flatten themselves, eben humans are told to look big when faced with bears. Piranha No matter where you go in the world, it’s hard to beat the classic, bizarre discoveries. The red bellied piranha is the original fear in the semi-deep river, and despite the Hollywood hype, these little guys aren’t as as all that. Jesus Lizard Many creatures discovered in the Amazon walk, and many live in the water, but very few do both at once. The Jesus lizard is one of the stranger inhabitants of this wild wonderland and it’s a sight to behold. Pink Dolphin At this point you might be thinking that nothing else that lives in the Amazon could be much of a surprise, considering the rest of this list. Well, the most famous inhabitant of the Amazon River would be unique and bizarre if found in the ocean, where most of its relatives dwell. Found in this river, it’s an absolute marvel.

A world-first study testing new underwater cameras on wild dolphins has given researchers the best view yet into their hidden marine world. A research team including experts from the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre and the University of Alaska Southeast trialled the custom-made non-invasive cameras to capture and analyse more than 535 minutes of such rarely-seen activities as mother-calf interaction, playing with kelp, and intimate social behaviours such as flipper-rubbing.
