The Seven Principles of Catholic Social Teaching

04:31
The Catholic Church has a wide-ranging and many-layered collection of teachings about social justice issues. In order to help organize these ideas within the many Church documents about social teaching, we have seven traditional principles that help introduce the major themes in easier-to-understand concepts. In this video we are going to look briefly at each principle, or theme, in order to introduce you to the foundational ideas at the heart of Catholic Social Teaching. Let’s begin. 1.Life and Dignity of the Human Person This principle means that all life is sacred; every person is precious in the eyes of God from conception to natural death. This principle is the foundation for the Church’s teaching on abortion, euthanasia, cloning, embryonic stem cell research, the death penalty, and even the pursuit of peace in conflict. In many ways, all the other principles can be traced back to this first, main idea: all human life is sacred and deserving of dignity. 2.Call to Family, Community, and Participation All people have the right to participate as citizens in society, seeking the common good. We are social beings and should protect the institutions that strengthen our community like marriage and family. "Christian families can [be a sign of unity for the world] by presenting to their children a model of life based on the values of truth, freedom, justice, and love.” St. John Paul II, The Family in the Modern World, no. 48 This principle has been central to the Church’s stance on marriage and family issues. 3. Rights and Responsibilities This principle challenges us to recognize our duty to protect the rights that all people have according to the human dignity given to them by God. The only way to protect community and the rights and dignity of the human person is for each of us to take responsibility and duty to one another, family, and the society in which we live. 4.Option for the Poor and Vulnerable This principle means putting the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable members of our society first and mending the divisions between the rich and poor. We think of the Lord Jesus’ words: “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.” Luke 4:18 5.The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers Work is the way that we participate in God’s creation. To protect the dignity of work, we must protect the basic rights of all people to find jobs that pay a just wage, to organize and join unions, and to own private property. In the late nineteenth century, as the work in factories became ever-present, the Church needed to take a stance for the rights of workers. Pope Leo XIII wrote what may be seen as the first major Catholic social teaching document, Rerum Novarum, or Rights and Duties of Capital and Labor, in order to protect the rights of workers in these situations. It is a document that still has relevance today as we continue to seek protection for the dignity of work and the rights of workers. 6. Solidarity Solidarity is an important concept in Catholic Social Teaching that means we are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, wherever they may be. We practice solidarity by promoting peace and justice. 7. Care for God’s Creation Finally, we are to show respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation. Our faith and sense of morality must lead us to protect the environment and be considerate of future generations of people living on this planet. Conclusion These principles, which are a summary of the major concepts in Catholic social teaching, should only be a starting point. They should be the foundation on which our we place our understanding of our role in society. They should inspire us to take responsibility to protect the rights and dignity of all people, especially those in most need. These principles outline the Church's response to God’s call to take action in the world for others. We are to love one another as Christ loved us. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves. The Social Proof Principle The Six Principles of Influence

04:26
Social Proof - put simply, there is a general tendency that when people find themselves in a situation of uncertainty, when they are not sure how to act, they look at the environment around them to find cues and guidance. Like laughter from a ghost audience. And they are especially influenced by people of their own age and status. This type of reasoning is what’s driving the success of websites and applications like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and “like-a-local” guides. People like to rely on the experience and opinion of like-minded people to guide their own decisions and actions. There is an excellent experiment that demonstrates the utility of this principle in action. The main goal of the study was to try to get people who are staying at a hotel in Arizona to reuse their towels. Four reasons were given to four different groups of guests, each appealing to a different thing: the environment, prospective donation of end-of-year laundry savings, an already completed donation, or the fact that the majority of the hotel guests reused their towel at least once per stay. One driving force behind social proof is the need to belong to a social group. Humans base about two-thirds of their self-image on the social groups they are part of. It stands to reason that when a situation occurs that makes us feel uncertain, we re-evaluate ourselves and start thinking on behalf of the group it makes sense to be a part of for this decision. For example, if choosing between several hair products an individual can ask themselves “What would make sense for me, as a young college graduate on a budget who cares about quality?” She would go with the choice that fits this description the best, and many others in her position will too. One very clever strategy used in TV ads was to change the usual tagline from “Operators are standing by” to “If our lines are busy, please call again”. At this point you can probably guess what that accomplished. This simple switch conveyed that many others are also calling in, thus the product or service must be very desirable and you will not be placing your eggs into the wrong basket if you also trust it. An easy way to convey a similar message in an increasingly online world is by introducing counters on your web platform, for example, of how many people have bought or support the product. Think about Kickstarter – the “funded in one day” banner on a project fulfils this exact purpose. And it is super effective! John Dewey, Liberalism and Social Action, Chapter 2, Part 1

14:09
This video is part of an effort to describe Progressive political thought--its assumptions and implications--through a close reading of John Dewey's 1935 classic Liberalism and Social Action. This particular video introduces the crisis of liberalism as it appears in chapter two of that book. It shows how earlier liberalism was not, in Dewey's view, adequate to the purposes of social construction and what that means.

What is ACTION RESEARCH? What does ACTION RESEARCH mean? ACTION RESEARCH meaning & explanation

02:02
BROWSE The Internet EASY way with The Audiopedia owned Lightina Browser Android app! INSTALL NOW - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.LightinaBrowser_8083351 What is ACTION RESEARCH? What does ACTION RESEARCH mean? ACTION RESEARCH meaning - ACTION RESEARCH definition - ACTION RESEARCH explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Action research is either research initiated to solve an immediate problem or a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a "community of practice" to improve the way they address issues and solve problems. There are two types of action research: participatory action research and practical action research. Denscombe (2010, p. 6) writes that an action research strategy's purpose is to solve a particular problem and to produce guidelines for best practice. Action research involves actively participating in a change situation, often via an existing organization, whilst simultaneously conducting research. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions, assisted or guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices and knowledge of the environments within which they practice. As designers and stakeholders, researchers work with others to propose a new course of action to help their community improve its work practices. Kurt Lewin, then a professor at MIT, first coined the term "action research" in 1944. In his 1946 paper "Action Research and Minority Problems" he described action research as "a comparative research on the conditions and effects of various forms of social action and research leading to social action" that uses "a spiral of steps, each of which is composed of a circle of planning, action and fact-finding about the result of the action".

11:22
UPPSC MAINS PAID GRP FOR PDFS - https://goo.gl/KevUwS WATSAPP NUMBER - 9971774617 CHARACTERISTICS AND OBJECTIVES OF SOCIAL WORK samaj karya kya hai ? full explanation of social work as academic discipline and common misconceptions regarding social work definition of social work Social work is an academic discipline and profession that concerns itself with individuals, families, groups and communities in an effort to enhance social functioning and overall well-being.[1][2] Social functioning refers to the way in which people perform their social roles, and the structural institutions that are provided to sustain them.[3] Social work applies social sciences, such as sociology, psychology, political science, public health, community development, law, and economics, to engage with client systems, conduct assessments, and develop interventions to solve social and personal problems; and create social change. Social work practice is often divided into micro-work, which involves working directly with individuals or small groups; and macro-work, which involves working communities, and within social policy, to create change on a larger scale. Social work developed in the 19th century, with roots in voluntary philanthropy and grassroots organizing.[4] However, the act of responding to social needs have existed long before then, primarily from private charities, and religious organizations. The effects of the Industrial Revolution and the Great Depression, placed pressure on social work to be a more defined discipline Social work is a broad profession that intersects with several disciplines. Social work organizations offer the following definitions. “Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledges, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing."[6] International Federation of Social Workers "Social work is a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. It aims to help people develop their skills and their ability to use their own resources and those of the community to resolve problems. Social work is concerned with individual and personal problems but also with broader social issues such as poverty, unemployment and domestic violence." -[7] Canadian Association of Social Workers Social work practice consists of the professional application of social work values, principles, and techniques to one or more of the following ends: helping people obtain tangible services; counseling and psychotherapy with individuals, families, and groups; helping communities or groups provide or improve social and health services; and participating in legislative processes. The practice of social work requires knowledge of human development and behavior; of social and economic, and cultural institutions; and of the interaction of all these factors."-[8] National Association of Social Workers "Social workers work with individuals and families to help improve outcomes in their lives. This may be helping to protect vulnerable people from harm or abuse or supporting people to live independently. Social workers support people, act as advocates and direct people to the services they may require. Social workers often work in multi-disciplinary teams alongside health and education professionals."- British Association of Social Workers
