Symmetric Key and Public Key Encryption
Modern day encryption is performed in two different ways. Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. Using the same key or using a pair of keys called the public and private keys. This video looks at how these systems work and how they can be used together to perform encryption. Download the PDF handout http://itfreetraining.com/Handouts/Ce... Encryption Types Encryption is the process of scrambling data so it cannot be read without a decryption key. Encryption prevents data being read by a 3rd party if it is intercepted by a 3rd party. The two encryption methods that are used today are symmetric and public key encryption. Symmetric Key Symmetric key encryption uses the same key to encrypt data as decrypt data. This is generally quite fast when compared with public key encryption. In order to protect the data, the key needs to be secured. If a 3rd party was able to gain access to the key, they could decrypt any data that was encrypt with that data. For this reason, a secure channel is required to transfer the key if you need to transfer data between two points. For example, if you encrypted data on a CD and mail it to another party, the key must also be transferred to the second party so that they can decrypt the data. This is often done using e-mail or the telephone. In a lot of cases, sending the data using one method and the key using another method is enough to protect the data as an attacker would need to get both in order to decrypt the data. Public Key Encryption This method of encryption uses two keys. One key is used to encrypt data and the other key is used to decrypt data. The advantage of this is that the public key can be downloaded by anyone. Anyone with the public key can encrypt data that can only be decrypted using a private key. This means the public key does not need to be secured. The private key does need to be keep in a safe place. The advantage of using such a system is the private key is not required by the other party to perform encryption. Since the private key does not need to be transferred to the second party there is no risk of the private key being intercepted by a 3rd party. Public Key encryption is slower when compared with symmetric key so it is not always suitable for every application. The math used is complex but to put it simply it uses the modulus or remainder operator. For example, if you wanted to solve X mod 5 = 2, the possible solutions would be 2, 7, 12 and so on. The private key provides additional information which allows the problem to be solved easily. The math is more complex and uses much larger numbers than this but basically public and private key encryption rely on the modulus operator to work. Combing The Two There are two reasons you want to combine the two. The first is that often communication will be broken into two steps. Key exchange and data exchange. For key exchange, to protect the key used in data exchange it is often encrypted using public key encryption. Although slower than symmetric key encryption, this method ensures the key cannot accessed by a 3rd party while being transferred. Since the key has been transferred using a secure channel, a symmetric key can be used for data exchange. In some cases, data exchange may be done using public key encryption. If this is the case, often the data exchange will be done using a small key size to reduce the processing time. The second reason that both may be used is when a symmetric key is used and the key needs to be provided to multiple users. For example, if you are using encryption file system (EFS) this allows multiple users to access the same file, which includes recovery users. In order to make this possible, multiple copies of the same key are stored in the file and protected from being read by encrypting it with the public key of each user that requires access. Anatomy of a Mix: Buss Compression [Excerpt]
http://anatomyofamix.co // An excerpt from the new Anatomy of a Mix course from Bob Horn and Warren Huart. In this video, Warren Huart shows you how he used SSL buss compression. — Transcript: Last, but no means least, is our buss compression. Now, there's quite a lot going on. This is the loudest part of the song. So I've got between... [mix] It's dancing between 2-3. There's minimal, 2 dBs of compression. 3, 3.5 maybe. It's never quite hitting 4. A couple of things to notice. Yes, the threshold is up because the source is really super hot. The gain make-up is back up to make the difference. Go and look over there at our VU meters. They are slammed. And you might ask, “Why are they slamming?”Well there's also something about an SSL when you — here we are, in the densest part of the song. The loudest part, the most aggressive part. There's something about the SSL when you hit it hard that does a little bit of natural limiting. I love Neve consoles. I love API consoles. But Neves, I have to be careful with. As soon as I get too hot over naught dB, I'm up at like, +3, here we are slamming it at +3 and above. On a Neve, I hear that crunchiness, so I have to mix within it. Having said that, a Neve has a beautiful, open sound, so it's fine. APIs are a little more forgiving, but the thing I like about SSLs is I can smash my Left and Right master buss pretty heavily and it adds to the sound of the mix. It's like natural limiting. We aren't doing any additional limiting on this at all. However, what we are doing is this. [video of Pultec EQs] So, when you're setting up your master buss in your mix, don't be afraid to compress and EQ. Here you see, I've got 60 selected, and I'm doing a boost of 2. That's not dB, it's probably — I believe we're probably around about a dB maximum. Maybe 0.7. I'd have to look it up, but not a huge amount of boost, but it is boosting on the mix. Here's off. [mix before and after EQ] And here's on. There's also 12kHz. Again, two steps up and it's set pretty broad. So what we have is some 60 and some 12 over the whole mix. So don't be afraid to do buss compression, and don't be afraid to do EQ on your mixes. If you're mixing in the box and you want to do a little compression and a little EQ, it's fine. I'm also getting natural limiting from my SSL, so if you need to limit, you can do that as well. If you look at Bob's way of working, he has multiple busses going into one master buss. Back to the buss compression, I've got the auto setting on the release. When I first started working on SSLs, I didn't like the buss compressor. I couldn't figure out why everybody raved about the SSL buss compressor. Then I asked a couple of different guys, especially guys like Joe Zook who are mixed in a hybrid fashion who use SSL buss compressors, and I was like, “Why do you like the SSL buss compressor?”He's like, “Oh, I love the way it sounds. It's got that spank, it sounds great.”Here it is off. [mix, no SSL compressor] Here's on. [mix with SSL on] It's got a little spank to it. I couldn't ever get the release time to be right. I tried fast, slow, whatever. And then he's like, “Put it on auto and listen again.”I put it on auto and listened again. Most of the time, I leave it on the auto setting. It's smarter than me, and it is really adding to the sound. I'm not saying you should do that every time. Different tempos of songs, you might actually find a release time that works perfectly with the tempo of the song. But, the auto setting is really the difference between it sounding like an SSL buss compressor or not for me. It's interesting, but I use it in auto. For the attack time, I've got it all the way up to 30 there. Full right, and then of course, the ratio is at 4:1, so it's not the most aggressive. It's definitely compressing 4 to 1, so you know, it needs four dB over to let one dB through. I could get more aggressive on it, but that's pretty typical for me. So thank you ever so much for watching. This is a song I had a lot of fun recording, and a lot of fun writing, and a lot of fun playing on, as you can tell.

Settings for GLUE in Waves SSL G-Master Bus Compressor
Watch the second part "The Glue Compression with Cytomic: What's different?": https://youtu.be/kG6hdttMv-Q Save an additional 10% off any purchase at Waves with our link: https://www.waves.com/r/xhwkze The goal of Glue Compression is to create cohesion and coherent movement between the different elements of a mix to simulate the experience captured by our ears when we are in front of an orchestra. The position of the controls varies according to the material to be processed, that is why in this video we want to explain what we consider the starting point for Glue Compression which is naturally the least invasive. Remember that there are no rules and you should always do what's best for the song. Finally we want to clarify that Glue Compression is a technique to compress sound not a model or a brand of compressor although it is quite safe to say that the compressor most associated with this technique is the SSL G Master Bus Compressor. Based on the renowned master buss center compressor of the SSL 4000 G console, the Waves SSL G-Master Buss Compressor captures the unique sound of the original’s IC input and twin VCA gain-reduction amplifier design. Prized by top engineers for its ability to “glue together” tracks, the SL 4000 G master buss center compressor is ideal for taming piano dynamics or adding punch to drums and percussion. Now, the ultimate finalizer that transforms a mix into a finished record can be yours - in the box. Perfect for tightening up final mixes Includes presets from GRAMMY-winning mixer Chris Lord-Alge Developed under license from Solid State Logic Link: https://waves.7eer.net/c/1321769/286864/4512?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.waves.com%2Fplugins%2Fssl-g-master-buss-compressor Enjoy! http://amagrasmusic.com/ Bandcamp: https://thewit.bandcamp.com/

Master Key System Secrets | Helmar Rudolph
Welcome to the first ever "car video" of mine recorded in South Africa. I've been waiting for it for a long time, and promptly chose a time when daylight was already failing. 😁😁 Please excuse both the grainy video as well as a couple of grammatical errors in my speech. This video is about the exercises of the Master Key System. It tells you what's behind them, and why they are so important. If you're a keen student of this amazing course in self-empowerment and enlightenment, then you may learn something new here. The exercises make up the actual system behind the Master Key. They give you new capabilities, whereas reading the text merely satisfies your intellect. The exercises empower you to have control over both your outer and your inner world, but before I get ahead of myself, please do enjoy this video, and a little bit of scenery on this overcast day. I took a nice drive from Tokai Forest via Constantia to Hout Bay, and then onto Chapman's Peak, which rates among the most scenic drives in the world. If you are looking for more information on the Master Key System, please visit http://www.mrmasterkey.com/en/ Peace and blessings, Helmar

The first 200 milliseconds of HTTPS  - Joshua Thijssen | IPC14
What happens when your browser connects to a HTTPS secure site? We all know it has to do something with certificates, blue and green address bars and sometimes your browser will give warnings which we normally click away. But what actually happens under the hood? In this talk Joshua Thijssen will give a step-by-step explanation on the first few hundred milliseconds during a connection to HTTPS. He will talk about master secrets, shared secrets, cipher suites, x509 certificates and why secure does not (always) mean secure. More information: https://phpconference.com/en/

How to Use an Expander/Gate to Mix Punchy Drums
Learn compression: http://learncompression.com Learn to mix hip-hop: http://mixinghiphop.com Improve your ears: http://quiztones.com Mixing tips: http://theproaudiofiles.com An Expander/Gate is a dynamics processor that decreases the amplitude of a signal when it is below a certain threshold. However, it does not change the signal when it is above the threshold. This has the effect of making relatively quiet portions of an audio signal even more quiet proportionally, so the difference between loud and quiet parts are increased. There are many uses for an expander/gate when mixing: - First, it can be used to reduce spill or bleed between recorded instruments. - Second, it can be used to shape the amplitude envelope of a signal. - Third, a side-chain input to an expander/gate can be used to key or trigger a signal. Last but not least, don't hesitate to use a gate to get rid of or reduce buzz, hum, and noise on an amp'ed up electric guitar track. http://theproaudiofiles.com/expander-gate-for-punchy-drums/

Reason 6, SSL Mixer Overview
Welcome to another episode of Reason Explained. Today we will walkthrough the emulated SSL 9000K Mixer in Reason 6. By the end of this video you will understand the different components of this mixer and be able to navigate freely throughout it. At the top of each channel strip is Gain control Here you can limit or boost your signal. You can also invert the polarity if you feel two tracks of the same performance are canceling each other out. Remember that boosting the signal will bring both the bad and good of your performance with it. Below the Gain control is where you can decide the order that your signal processes. The default arrangement is the downward flow of the channel strip. Clicking the insert Pre or Dynamics Post EQ will change the order that your signal is processed. Next is the Dynamics section: This is where you onboard compression and Noise gate can be found. The compressor has general settings to smooth out the dynamics of your signal, they are Ratio Threshold and Release. The default setting for the threshold to be applied is a soft knee, clicking peak will change it to a defined attack at the threshold. Choosing the fast option will make the compressor act immediately as the signal passes over the Threshold value that you choose. Clicking the Key button will allow you to side chain your dynamics section and apply them to specific bands in the EQ section. Next in the Dynamics section is the Gate/Expander. Noise Gating is one way to reduce constant noises like bass hums and hiss. Using the Range, Threshold, Release and Hold parameters you can set when the gate should open and how long it should stay open to allow your signal to pass thru. After dynamics section is EQ. This is a great way to carve out the fundamental frequencies of a given instrument. One of my favorite features of the onboard EQ is the High and Low pass filters. The low pass filter will roll off all frequencies higher or to the right of where you aim the frequency knob. Likewise the high pass filter functions in the same way rolling off all lower frequencies to the left of the frequency knob. The EQ section is divided into 4 bands. The 1st is the High frequency. The 3 parameters are gain, frequency and bell which corresponds to your Q value or the width of your notch or boost. These parameters are identical for the low frequency as well. The midrange is divided into 2 parts. THe High Midrange and the Low mid range. The controls are parametric and you have greater control over your Q value. Next up are the insert FX. This is where you can tie in your combinator patches and killer FX chains you have created in the Rack area. I will discuss these in greater detail in future episodes. Simply clicking the folder will take you to the factory sound bank where you can select from a number of pre made combinator patches. You can also create your own and save them accordingly. Once an insert is selected you can access it in the Rack view. Note that the 4 Rotary and button knobs on the combinator patch correspond to the 4 Rotary and button knobs on the insert FX section of the channel strip. Next up are the Send FX. Think of the this as a way to have one effect that all your tracks can use. These effects can be dialed in on the right side of the mixer in the Master send and Return section of the mixer. These effects also correspond to left side of the rack view under the master section. Next are the channel strip controls. This is where you can control the volume and pan of your tracks. A nice feature reason has built into the mixer are the sequence and rack buttons below the fader. Clicking these will take you to that tracks sequencer or rack view. Note that they also dim upon clicking. Now that you have a basic understanding of the capabilities of the SSL 9000 mixer in Reason lets discuss the master section. Clicking the sequencer button will take you to the master section of your sequencer track. Clicking the rack button will take you to the Send FX in the Rack View. Your master controls for your return FX are above the master fader. Above that are your master insert FX. Clicking the edit insert button will take you to the master section insert FX in the rack view. Above your master insert section you can control your send FX. Last is the master compressor to tie your entire track together nicely. Check back for future videos where I will cover everything from sound design to how the backing track to this video was created.
