This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. This week Eric Worre gives you 10 Strategies to Become an Event Promotion Machine, and ideas on how you can be a world class promoter. Promotion in network marketing is the number one highest paid skill. The people who can get people to make a decision to go and attend an event, they get paid bigger than anybody else in network marketing… When people go to events, their vision changes, their game plan changes, and their view of the future changes. In this video Eric is discussing event promotion for the promotional partners of the upcoming Recruiting Mastery event, but the concept is the same regardless of the event or company. Strategy #1 is to Promote. As Eric explains, don’t confuse Promotion with Announcements. Most people announce, and announcements don’t create promotion. Make sure people know that you are committed to it also, let them know the value and benefits. For example, “Here’s all the things you’re going to get if you decide to attend this event with us.” Promotion is all inclusive. Strategy #2, promote to your entire team. Talk about what they are going to learn. Talk about the relationships, talk about the fun, adventure, excitement and ideas. Talk about all the benefits they would get by being there. Strategy #3 – Work With Your Leaders. Identify key leaders that are going to be part of your promotional team. Give those people some benefits for promotion and results, such as maybe you have a special dinner or party for those people, or maybe some incentives or some bonus recognition. Use your leaders to create leverage. Get your team involved. Strategy #4 –Prizes or awards. Maybe you could benefit by not just selling tickets, but you could use a few as giveaways, or incentives or bonuses. Maybe you’ve got a leg that needs to be built up in order for you to move to the next level. You can tell the people in your organization that if they achieve XYZ, then you have give them a ticket as a reward, as incentive, as a contest in order to be able to provide an incentive for them to do the task that’s going to reward you not only short term but long term. Strategy #5 – Recognition. Recognize the people who register. Recognize the people who register early. Recognize the people who are on the leadership team. Recognize they’re stepping out and getting outside of their comfort zone. Recognize them on Facebook. Recognize them on email. Recognize them on conference calls. Recognize them however you want to recognize them, but recognition drives behavior, it really, really does. Strategy #6 – Create an Event Within the Event. For example, if you are promoting an event, let them know of a special acticity or party you have planned just for your team. Create a little get together before the event even starts to get them excited and focused. There are lunches, breakfasts, dinners, workouts, or anything you want to do inside of your team. Create some extra things. Strategy #7 - Repetition. Repetition being the idea that you can’t just announce this and you can’t just invite people, you have to promote, which means repeat it over and over and over and over and over again for people to realize that you’re serious about this. Strategy #8 – Host Hotels. Create a host hotel if your event isn’t located in a hotel. Use it as party central. Maybe throw a pool part the day before the event, or have a party in lounge, or appetizers or dinner. Engage in those activities as a team. Use the hotel to help create some excitement. Strategy #9 - No. 9. Corporate or Cross Line. Talk to people that maybe you have good relationship with that are cross line to you, and see if they want a little chunk of your tickets in order to bring part of their team. Also talk to Corporate and see if they want to use tickets as incentives or scholarships. And finally Strategy #10 – Create breakout sessions for your team after the event is over. This will really help your team absorb the materials that were presented and create strategy that everyone can implement so you all are rowing on the same team. The analysis on how much money we're spending to generate the traffic and here's what's crazy, most people don't realize this, we generate, let's say a million visitors a month on Neil Patel. Do you know what the cost to get there is with video, production, podcasting, blogging, promotion, ads, link building? $110,000 a month. That's what it averaged out to for 2017. Here are my marketing strategies for 2018. I just bought a blog in the marketing space for a half a million bucks. They get a million visitors a month, and it's cheaper to spend money acquiring people who already have the traffic. So in 2017, I bought Uber Suggest, I think it was around 140 grand. They had very little traffic. I 381 redirected the site, traffic increased and guess what happened? Nothing. I hoped that my traffic would go through the roof, but nothing happened. Uber Suggest was a good acquisition and what I ended up learning from that is, who cares about links? Don't buy anything for the links. Buy it purely based off of traffic and just pay a simple metric. If Uber Suggest has roughly 200,000 visitors per month, I paid a hundred and something; I would have paid 200 grand, the money didn't matter. For a blog that I just spent half a million on, their traffic ranges. On a horrible month, they'll get around 800,000 uniques. In a perfect month, they'll get around, like, 1.2, 1.3 million uniques, and all I'm doing right now is buying as many blogs as possible. My marketing strategy for 2018 is to buy blogs based on of traffic. I look at the top posts that they have and how qualified their visitors are and determine if I can successfully monetize their content. I don't even care if they have revenue. If they don't have revenue, even better. The problem with Search Engine Journal is that they have conferences, they have advertising, and they have contracts for all of it. I don't care for any of that. I just want the traffic. So when you buy all these people for traffic and then you put it into your monetization flow, you can quickly figure out, what is this worth? If I can't make my money back in less than 12 months, I will not buy it. The other marketing strategy that I use when I'm buying these sites is to look for blogs that aren't monetized well. The blog that I ended up buying for half a million bucks, they're not even making three grand a month. If you're not even making three grand a month, that's a good deal, right? They're like; you're going to give me half a million dollars for this? No problem. Another creative marketing strategy I'm doing right now, is trying to buy a really popular marketing tool. I don't want to pay them all the money they're asking for because they want well into the millions, and it isn't worth it. But, I'm trying to work out a deal where I give them X amount of money up front, let's say a million dollars, and then give them a hundred thousand a month over X amount of months or a hundred thousand a year over X amount of years. When I see inefficiencies in sites, I figure I can purchase them and double the revenue because they aren't optimized for traffic or conversions. So buy it for what it's worth, optimize it, and then use the profits to pay them out continually. That way you're not using all of your money and the business is paying, you may have spent a bit more money, but personally, you don't have to spend as much money, and that's my marketing strategy for 2018. My goal is to spend at least $5 million acquiring businesses purely based on their traffic. Here’s an interesting stat: the National Retail Federation shows that 40% of shoppers start their holiday shopping before Halloween. So if you’re not prepared for the holiday season by October 1st, you’re missing out! But what is the best online marketing strategy for the holidays? Here are 7 tips to get you ready for the holiday season: 1 - Figure out what holidays you’d like to run promotions for and what those promotions should be (such as a coupon for 25% off, or buy 1 get 1 free, etc…). It’s ideal to plan this annually for the entire year and then adjust as you go. But for the main holiday season you really need to be prepared by September 1st. 2 - Create leaderboard banners for your website to promote the holiday. You can also create landing pages for your website if needed, but in many cases, the leaderboard banner will do the job just fine. 3 - Write the ad copy and design all the ads for the holiday promo. Match your leaderboard banner design. Design ads for all your major marketing channels (Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc..) 4 - Design email template for the holiday promo. These should also match the leaderboard banner and ad designs (are you sensing a theme?) 5 - Determine when you want the holiday campaign to run and what daily budget you’d like to invest. 6 - Put somebody in charge of taking the campaign live (activating coupons, adding leaderboard banners, activating the ads, sending the emails, etc..) and, just as importantly - taking everything down at the scheduled time. 7 - Record your results and make adjustments for the next holiday. Save your assets! This will save you a lot of time and effort next year. By following this process you’ll be organized and prepared well before the holiday seasons so you’re not rushing things at the last minute. Today I’m going to give you 3 outrageous restaurant marketing ideas you should try this year to stand out from the competition and win over brand new customers. As a bonus, I’m going to tell you how to get thousands of dollars in free advertising with these promotions too! The first restaurant marketing idea is a food eating competition. Now you might be saying, Nick, this isn’t a marketing idea, it’s a restaurant promotion. Yes, you are right but soon you’ll see how all these promotions are going to tie into one key strategy to bring you hundreds of new customers based around one simple tactic. So, why run a food eating competition? Because people love to be entertained, it’s different, and nobody else is probably doing one of these right now in your area! You can go to any bar or restaurant and eat and drink and watch the game, but how many are doing fun crazy things like this. I run a pizza eating competition, a one pound burger eating competition, and a taco eating competition every year and my customers love it! I tried hot dogs but nobody wanted to get in it because nobody wanted to eat hot dogs! If you’re going to try this out, ask your customers what they’d want first. The second outrageous restaurant marketing idea is running a contest and giving away a free meal per day for an entire year. Why do this? Because it’s an amazing offer, it grabs attention, and who doesn’t want to sign up for a free meal, per day, for an entire year? Are you going to lose money running this competition? Nope not a penny. Here’s how I run this promotion. Set up a one page, lead capture website to collect people’s information in order to sign them up. Drive traffic there using Facebook ads and getting your staff to sign people up. To make this really profitable for you, make everyone a winner by giving them some kind of discount when they sign up and give them 7 days to use it to create some quick sales. What I do for the winner who wins the free meal for a year is the free meal is tied to a restriction that it’s dine in only and they must either purchase 2 beverages with it or buy another full priced meal. I make this clear before they sign up so there is no confusion. By adding in these restrictions you at the very least break even on each meal. The third outrageous restaurant marketing idea is to get a celebrity chef to come in. Why? Because everyone wants to meet a celebrity and this helps you build instant credibility! The way to start looking for someone who isn’t take expensive is look up the chefs that are on Bar Rescue or one of the other food tv shows and contact them to see what they’d charge to come in. Maybe get some of the beer, liquor, and food vendors to help sponsor it. Here’s the big bonus I wanted to fill you in on. When you run outrageous restaurant marketing ideas like this, you don’t have to come out of pocket to promote them. You can use the press. All you have to do is send out a press release about the event and if don’t know how to write one, google it and get a template. You can write one in 30 minutes at most. Take that press release and send it out to your tv, radio, and news stations. They will interview you before the event and you’ll get exposure that way. Then most likely they will show up the day of the event to get more footage and you’ll get exposure again, absolutely free! This brings me to my conclusion. In today’s competitive market, you have to run promotions and marketing strategies like this. You have to be different then everyone else. You have to stand out. Because if you don’t, you’ll never reach the success you’re really looking for. And these 2 secrets are… 1) Sales Velocity 2) Conversions These are the 2 key factors the Amazon algorithm uses when choosing which products will sit at the top of their search results (the search engine accounts for 90% of sales on Amazon). Here is what you need to do to launch your first Amazon FBA product and make it a home-run success (even if it’s your first product): You need to match (or ideally improve on) the sales velocity & conversions of your top competitor for 2 weeks. If you do this… then your item will soar to the top of the search results - and YOU’LL start making all of the organic sales for your product! Hack #1 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use product giveaways Product giveaways for your Amazon FBA private label product are one of the most powerful strategies at your disposal for massively increasing your sales velocity & conversions. You can’t give products away for free but you can give people a heavily discounted coupon that lets them buy it for just 99 cents, which means you are basically giving it away for free. And this is simple: Sign up for a service like JumpSend or ZonBlast. These services have a huge membership base of people that are keen to purchase heavily discounted items on Amazon. They will then distribute your coupon to it’s members. Not only will this drastically increase your sales, but the conversions will be high: You can expect around 50%. Hack #2 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Lower the price If your item starts getting sales (product giveaways are of course a great way to do this) and traction, you can then attract more sales from simply lowering the price below your competition for a week or two. If your product is already ranked in the top few results and you want to climb to the top, this strategy alone can be enough. Hack #3 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use SuperURLs When someone clicks on your product listing after finding it using the Amazon search engine, they enter using a SuperURL: It’s a URL containing tracking information that tells the Amazon algorithm that they arrived at your listing through finding it using the search engine. You can give people this URL instead of your usual product URL to trick the algorithm into thinking that people found (and bought your item) through finding it using the search engine. Be aware though, this is a controversial method. Experts like Daniel recommend only pushing through a maximum of 20% of your sales this way. Hack #4 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use paid advertising You can place paid ads in the Amazon search engine for your item, targeting specific keywords. When someone buys a product through clicking on it, not only will this increase your sales velocity - but it’ll help your product rank organically for that keyword as well. Hack #5 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Increase the conversions on your listing & get reviews It’s not enough to get the initial sales & conversions from drastically lowering your price: You need to have a high-converting listing so that when you reach the top of the search results you’ll keep making more sales than your competitor, otherwise the Amazon algorithm will drop you in the results. Here are some tips for increasing your conversions on your listing: * Have the maximum number of HD photos that are big enough the customer can zoom in on them. * Have a keyword rich product title. * Have multiple bullet points with excellent copy. * Have a descriptive product description that has photos included in it. Be sure to email and follow up with your customers, asking them to leave an honest review. If you do this, you can increase the rate of people leaving a review to as high as 10-15% (compared to less than 5%). Hack #6 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use Amazon Marketing Services Amazon Market Services (AMS) is an advertising platform that you need to be specially approved for. When you are approved it lets you advertise on lots of pages on Amazon, such as your competitor’s pages. Because it requires pre-approval, most of your competition won’t be using it. So you can use this to place ads in larger amounts than 99% of your competitors and outsell them.
