How To Travel Around London and Buy an Oyster Card - Important Tips!
Here are some very important tips on how to travel around London and buy an oyster card. Especially if it is your first time visiting London, if you aren't careful you can end up paying a lot more for your travel so it's important you pay the right fare. You can use your oyster card or contactless payment card for lots of different types of transport on London TFL services. This includes buses, trains, tubes, Thames Clipper boats, trams and even the Emirates Airline cable cars. My favourite thing to do is to travel on the old Number 15 routemaster buses. A real icon of London. I'll show you all the tips and tricks on how to behave like a true Londoner and not to be barged out of the way by the locals when travelling on transport in London. There are other ways to pay for London Transport including Apple Pay on your iphone or with a contactless credit or debit card. But I think it's easiest to get an oyster card when you first arrive. Try to avoid buying paper tickets because they cost more!! And the buses don't accept money so you must have an oyster or credit card or apple pay. The video begins inside St. Pancras International Railway station. It is connected to the tube station with the most lines (six), from which I take the Piccadilly Line two stops to Holborn en route to the British Museum. The train is bound for Northfields and is of the 1973 Tube Stock class. The second set of escalators seen at Holborn are the second-longest in the system, after those at Angel. I am going to travel for 5 weeks First Destination: London Stratford. I stay at my family in Vienna the night before departure I leave very early in the morning to get a train to the Blue Danube Airport Linz. I’ve booked the train ticket early so it is just 9 euro for vienna to linz, from their I have to take a regional train for 2 euro. I jump off the train in Hörsching and request the free airport shuttle service from the train station to the airport. Everyone at the airport seems to be quite happy and the whole airport experience is first class. The flight has amazing views but I don’t have a window seat so I ask my seating neighbor to take a picture, I usually don’t book window seats because the airplane was build for children and I don’t have a chance to look out of the window. After arriving in London Stansted, which is actually nowhere near London, I have a first time experience taking the bus instead of the train. it’s okay and very well organized. I strongly advise you to take the bus instead of the train when you don’t go to London Liverpool Street. I have no traffic and arrive after 53 minutes in London Stratford, which is a district in east London. I have a room right next to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with a nice view on the lee river navigation and the London Stadium, I also have a terrace but It’s too cold and we don’t have sun for tanning. It’s November, lol. Like many world capitals, this is a city that never sleeps, and on my most recent visit, I got to experience that firsthand. My challenge was to discover 24 unique experiences in London – one for every hour of the day! From secret speakeasies to living room concerts, and whimsical afternoon teas to bustling food markets, I scoured the city to bring you the following 24 hours in London! Let’s begin. I skipped breakfast to visit a coffee shop in Hampstead! With a bit of caffeine in my system, I continued on to my 9:00 am activity which was walking up Parliament Hill in Hampstead Heath with a great lookout point of the city skyline. Set in a former power station it is home to the national collection of British art from 1900 to the present. I got off at Westminster Station and walked over to Horse Guards Parade for my next activity. If you’re visiting with kids there’s a section inside the museum where you can try on different uniforms. Cruising down the Thames is a classic way to experience London while hearing interesting London facts that you won’t find in any guidebook. With hundreds of food stalls selling everything. What can you do in the middle of the afternoon in London? I made my way over to the West End for a show. Having afternoon tea at the Sanderson was like stumbling down a rabbit hole and being transported to the world of Alice in Wonderland. Everything from the menu to the teapots to the ‘drink me’ potions was just right! The RISEGallery has been doing a lot of work to help connect local artists with property owners, and this has resulted in some beautiful murals. I attended my first Late where museums and art galleries stay open after hours, offering extended admission or putting on special events. I got to experience Sofar Sounds, which is a pop-up concert that takes place in people’s living rooms. It’s not until 24 hours before the event that you are emailed the address and the names of the artists performing that night. Then at 11pm, for a bit of live music, it was onwards to The Blues Kitchen in Brixton, where they do barbecue, bourbon, and blues. Flight Club is a bar that puts a twist on the traditional English pub by adding modern darts into the equation. With the clock striking one, my next stop transported me to London in the 1940s. This bar was set in an attic and it had a bit of speakeasy vibe. There mixing all sorts of fun cocktails. We checked out London’s nightlife scene at 3 am with dance moves at KOKO. Last but not least, the final activity of my 24 hours in London was breakfast at Duck & Waffle. Located on a 40th floor, this restaurant has amazing views of Central London and they are open 24 hours a day. And that’s a wrap for my 24 hours in London! I hope you enjoyed following along and that also got a few ideas for your own trip. As you can see, this city has plenty to offer, no matter the time of day. Wishing you happy travels and see you next time! Music by DJ Quads: https://soundcloud.com/aka-dj-quads
The London ghost train on its final journey – BBC London
The daily Paddington to West Ruislip train has been dubbed the loneliest train service in London, known as a "ghost train". It’s not publicised and is used by very few commuters. But on Friday 7 December, this route saw its last journey. Our Transport Correspondent, Tom Edwards went along.

EP #74 | ANTWERP DIARIES! // 1st & 2nd September 2016 - Travel Vlog // ENGLAND TO BELGIUM _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Love to travel? You Can Earn £15 by using this link for Hotels/hotels/etc - https://www.booking.com/s/27_8/819a2f92 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I booked my ticket there for £12.50 via the Megabus UK website. On my way back I used the Flixbus, which is the company website you get redirected to when you try to book with megabus now. They have taken over Megabus (I think for journeys to certain countries). We got on the ferry where I was talking to someone for 2 hours and I believe this is why I was so tired lol!. It was a fairly simple journey except for the fact that I fell asleep a few metres from the Antwerp bus stop and unfortunately MISSED IT! Luckily I woke up before getting to Rotterdam and all was not lost lol. So, I would definitely recommend getting a coach abroad to Antwerp. I like coach journeys because there is no check-in process which cuts out getting to the 'mode of transport' 3 hours in advance. 30 minutes is sufficient for an international coach journey - and that's just for your own ease of mind. Unlike a flight the 'gate/door' closes minutes before it is due to set off! So take a chance. Metroline Travel LT107 - Route 390 Journey
Taking a ride from Archway up to Tottenham Court Road on route 390 which the route itself is even younger than me and was introduced to replace the withdrawn section of route 10 between King's Cross and Archway. The 390 became only the fifth London bus route to be converted into New Routemaster operation that occurred in December 2013 making the current allocation almost four years old. Also on 17 June 2017, the 390 was withdrawn between Notting Hill Gate and Marble Arch and was rerouted to serve Victoria via Hyde Park instead. London’s NEWEST Tri-Axle Hybrid Double Decker Bus on Route 12 + Journey!
Today was the day the Enterprise BCI Tri-Axle Hybrid Double Decker powered by Vantage Power entered service on TFL London Route 12. This bus route is operated by Go Ahead London fro Camberwell Bus Garage using New Routemasters. After more than 6 months of teething troubles, I caught it on the first day of service. This was the first bus that I have seen that has LED Blinds, and they are truly remarkable, the average commuter would not tell the difference. People thought it was a new Routemaster and hence started boarding from the middle doors, ofcourse the bus doesn’t have readers here! The interior is nice but some would describe it as a bit plastic. The lower deck salon is poorly laid out, a pushchair would have to board from the central doors as the staircase extrudes into the main aisle. The exterior boasts about USB Charging, phone holders (useless after a few weeks), more seats and air conditioning. Yet no wifi!!!! The extra seats are a bonus, the bus is nippy and it doesn’t feel heavy, it can pull away quick too! If the trial is successful, then a few more could be ordered for TFL London Routes! TA1 - LX18DGF

Istanbul To London: A Journey West
On 31st December, 2011, I arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, to embark on a ten day, 2,000 mile journey across Europe. Following the route of the Orient Express, "A Journey West" documents my travels by train, from Europe's most south-easterly shores to the north-west and London, in the UK. This pseudo-documentary is a combination of moving and still images, captured using handheld cameras. Much of the imagery captured whilst on the move, with the camera attached to my back-pack straps at shoulder or waist height. The aim was to create a real sense of 'travelling' and movement, placing the viewer directly at that moment in time, as if it were their own journey. For this reason, there is also no narration or commentary, only diegetic sounds, enabling the viewer to form their own opinions and judgments and experience the journey for themselves, based on the footage before them. "A Journey West" is a film by Henry W R White.

Full Journey! Eurostar - E320 - London St Pancras International to Amsterdam
Here is my latest video onboard Eurostar's new direct service to Amsterdam. Flying from London to Brussels in 1h 47 minutes is very impressive, then followed by the fact that Amsterdam is 3h 41 mins away from London. Unfortunately, we got delayed on route so ended up being around 12 minutes later than expected. However, overall, the new service was fantastic and looked like it was well received from the public. **There are a few places in the video, where it doesn't focus properly, I think this is due to the sun and the speed of the train. Hope you enjoy. www.thefrequenttraveller.co.uk @thefreqtravels **All video content is property of 'The Frequent Traveller' and can't be republished or used without 'The Frequent Traveller's' permission.

**First Day** Observations and a Journey on route 104 Go Ahead London E128 (LX09FCE)
Today Go Ahead London commenced operating 104 and very big loss for Stagecoach London as it’s been Stagecoach since birth. Still I have fond memories of it when I was a child. Route 104 is now operated by Go Ahead London from River Road (RR) bus garage running between Stratford and Manor Park via East Ham, Lonsdale Avenue, Upton Park, Plashet, Barking Road and High Street using Alexander Dennis Enviro400 10.1m and 10.2m. 10.2m. This route will be cut by not serving between Manor Park and Lonsdale Avenue and will be extended to Beckton Station. This withdrawn section will be replaced by a new route 304 that runs between Manor Park and Custom House via East Ham, Lonsdale Avenue, Newham and Silvertown using Volvo B9TL 10.4m Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 on September 2019. __________________________________________ Hi! Zone 1 Tube Journey For Just £1.50
So taking a short trip on the tube from Zone 1 to Zone 2, or Zone to Zone 2 THROUGH Zone 1 always costs you £2.40 (in the off-peak, it's £2.90 in the peak) for the adult fare, except ... not always! Here's an example where you can travel through Zone 1, and only pay £1.50, and it's a quicker journey too. Can you find any others? Check your idea by having a look at the TfL Single Fare Finder page ... ... the 'Single Fare Finder' is a great page on the TfL website which lets you type in any two stations and you can see in advance how much it's going to cost: https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/fares/single-fare-finder Also, just realised of course that the Overground DOES go through Zone 1 at Shoreditch High Street ... (Euston and Liverpool Street don't count as they're terminus stations, you can't go THROUGH Zone 1 using them) which does have its own anomaly in that you can go from Clapham Junction to Highbury & Islington, also for just £1.50 - We covered this in 'Secrets of the Overground' here: https://youtu.be/RxcH9M4moks?t=5m15s Edited by Will Head / Fixation Video

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle: UK To France (Full Journey On Coach)
This is a long video showing the journey from Folkestone (UK/England) to Calais/Fréthun (France) on Saturday 3rd December 2016 on the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle (Channel Tunnel) tunnel shuttle service. The videos were taken onboard a coach during a day trip to Lille Christmas Market so there is a bit of talking throughout the video, not done by me. This was the outward crossing to France. The time of our shuttle train was about 08:40 (UK Time). The video shows mostly the whole journey through the check-in and waiting for boarding to commence. It then shows the journey through the 23.5 mile tunnel in the passenger carriages. The junction for the Channel Tunnel is the M20 11A exit (for vehicles travelling southbound from the North) and M20 12 exit (for vehicles travelling northbound from the south east coast). After travelling down the road, there's toll stations where a rather "touchless" touchscreen has to be used to check-in and issue a crossing time for your vehicle. Once check-in is complete, there's time to wait for a crossing time inside the leisure complex consisting of overpriced shops, a bureau de change and some food outlets. After about 20 minutes in the complex, the coach had to move on as there should be about 45 minutes after leaving the leisure complex before the destined train was suppose to depart. Before boarding the shuttle train, passports had to be checked and then a wait in a lane of traffic until the barrier rises and the traffic lights turn green at the end of the waiting area. Large and high vehicles, such as coaches, were let out first before the cars. The trains consist of two Class 009 Eurotunnel Le Shuttle locomotives, some of the most powerful locos. in Europe, either side of 14 passenger coaches. At either end, part of the train opens up (seen in a video on the platform) to allow vehicles to board and alight. The passenger carriages are quite old. They're from the 1990s. The old equipment inside the train can show this. Probably the most coolest feature is the carriage separation doors and shutters. The alarms sound and the strobe lights flash followed by the passenger doors swinging into position and then metal shutters closing from the top. As you can see from the journey through the carriages, the doors are operated on air pressure. It was easier to allow doors to be opened easily when buttons are pressed instead of the doors to be fully automatic. If the button isn't pressed, the air pressure won't change and it will be harder to push the door open. The full journey of the shuttle from boarding to alighting takes about 35 minutes. Sometimes it can be a couple of minutes over or under. A full safety announcement is given over a announcement system including the option to read info. boards, which no-one actually reads in the first place. Safety is number 1 here after the tunnel has had three fires with HGV vehciles whilst in the tunnel. During the crossing, I managed to catch the point where the railways cross-over into the other tunnels. This is so trains can switch to the other tunnel in the middle if one is blocked. The train finally arrives in France with about 15-20 minutes in the tunnel itself. When the train stops, the carriage separation doors open automatically and the traffic moves off the train. When off the platform, the roads lead directly to the A16 motorway in France. I hope you liked this interesting video I uploaded. Find more on the Channel Tunnel Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_Tunnel Thanks For Watching! Don't Forget To Like And SubScribe!
