MLA annotated bibliography & online sources

06:16
[Select 720p for sharper images.] Learn how to create an annotated bibliography. We'll also talk about how to document online sources. I believe the format conventions regarding Internet sources will continue to evolve, so this video may be revised later. Also, in my opinion, it's OK to skip a line between bibliographic entries. The music is copyright-free music from GarageBand. 2015 REVISION: Sometimes a jpg file name is nonsensical, like when it's just numbers; that jpg title conveys no useful information to the reader. So, in those cases, I recommend using a description of the image, e.g. Movie still from Iron Man. Now on Twitter @mistersato411

How to Write a Bibliography

02:17
Watch more How to Write Essays and Research Papers videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/259669-How-to-Write-a-Bibliography You've finished writing a brilliant research paper. Don't forget to give credit where credit is due with a bibliography. Step 1: Format the page Format a page with double spaces and one-inch margins, and center "Bibliography" at the top. Align the first line of each entry against the left margin, and indent any additional lines five spaces. Step 2: Alphabetize sources Alphabetize sources by the author's last name. If no author is listed, use the first word of the title of the source, excluding "A," "An," or "The." Step 3: List author's name Start each entry with the author's last name and then first name, separated by a comma, and followed by a period. Additional authors are cited with first names followed by last names. The final author is preceded by "and." Step 4: List article title Cite the title of an article in a book, magazine, or internet source two spaces after the period. The title should be followed by a period and be contained inside quotation marks. Tip Consult a format handbook for how to cite less common sources. Step 5: List source title List the name of the book, magazine, or internet source in italics two spaces after the period. Include volume and issue numbers for magazines and, for internet sources, precede the title with the date the source was written. Tip This source is sometimes underlined. Check any guidelines you were given to see if there is a preference. Step 6: Add publisher information Provide the publisher information for a source from a book. Type the city of the publisher, followed by a colon, then the publisher's name, comma, and then the year of publication. Step 7: Add magazine or internet information For a magazine, add the date of the issue followed by a comma and the pages where the article appears. For an internet source, put the date you accessed the source followed by the URL in angle brackets. End with a period. Did You Know? Did you know? According to a national survey, 54 percent of U.S. students admitted plagiarizing from the internet.

If there is no author given, cite the web site itself as the author. Follow this with a period and then a single space. Tip For variations and updates to this format, check out the latest edition of the MLA Handbook at your local library. Step 2: List the title List the article or page title that you are citing. Enclose the title in quotation marks with period inside the quotes and one space outside the quotes. If the title is generic, such as "Home Page" or "About Us," do not use quotes. Step 3: Italicize the site Type the name of the web site in italics followed by a period and a single space. Step 4: Cite the publisher Cite the publisher of the article or site followed by a comma and the year of publication and then a period. Step 5: Note medium Note that you are citing a web site by typing "Web," followed by period and a single space. Step 6: Cite date accessed Cite the date you last accessed the web site in the day/month/year format. Include the actual URL in angle brackets following the date, and complete the citation with a period. Step 7: Use indent Make sure the first line of your citation is flush left with the margin and that any subsequent lines of the same citation are indented one tab. Did You Know? Short and long quotes (fiction) in MLA style (vers. 1)

09:50
I teach at an all girls school. This video was originally made for my students, hence I say, "Good morning, ladies." If you leave a comment complaining about that statement, then I will delete your comment. Go work on your paper. (Also, you don't see my students complaining about that "All men are created equal line" in our most famous national document.) Set up your spacing, then write a body paragraph using short and long quotes from a novel or short story in MLA style. I have made a new version of this video that is easy to read.
