STAR WARS THEME - John Williams - East West Hollywood Virtual Orchestra

211 ratings | 24822 views
http://vithormoraes.com/index.php/en/ This screencap shows the piano roll (composition tool) on ProTools. The midi/notes displayed don't necessarily match the articulations or length of the notes performed as they were quantised and modified for better visualisation. All instruments are transposed to concert pitch, thus showing the notes as performed, not as written/read. Timpani rolls and strings measured tremolo (if present) are shown as repeated notes instead of a single note going through a library that plays rolls or tremolo samples. Virtual Orchestra performed by East West Hollywood Gold Instruments and programmed by me.

It's a 7/10 decent, needs reverb

its amazing that there are some people here who do not understand the hard work put into this. well if you compare it to the original played with a real orchestra then yes... it does not sound as good... but over all I am extremely proud of Vithor Moraes for doing this. from my point of view this is Awesome!

good stuff over all! but im missing reverb and what kind of trumpets did you use? those sound kind of weak?
Rogier van Gemert (8 days ago)
i think you did use the wrong trumpet patches/presets.. or played them wrongly (in terms of dynamics and such)

Tobias Scheel Just the EastWest ones, and you’re right there’s no reverb.

Nice work here!Is there a way to enter musical notes into East West's software? Finding a simple tutorial on how to do this is nearly impossible.
Vithor Moraes (1 year ago)
What do you mean, exactly, by "musical notes"? You mean music notation instead of midi? If so, some DAWs allow you to write sheet music in them, and you may be able to load East West's PLAY Engine on a sheet music software, but I'm not sure about it. It's always preferable to work with midi since you'll end up having different channels for the same instruments in order to be able to load different articulations

impressive! i have a hard time mastering midi in pro tools, but then again, theres no other daw as pro tools so im never leaving it
Sounds a bit fake, but that IS expected with virtual orchestra samples

Mythsque 2nd Channel its more to do with his midi info than the samples. Over quantising creates robotic sound.

to me it sounds perfect well done

A lot of negativity from some hard-to-please types here. That took a lot of hard work. Impressive. Keep it up!

Great sequence, Vithor – subscribed!

The brass section seems pretty on-point, but those strings are pretty bad...maybe automation/compression/eq would fix that, hopefully? If not, that's kind of a shame, I'm still kinda looking for a decent set I can use without giving an arm and a leg. Good recreation, though. A like for you.

+Vithor Moraes Sure thing, but I should clarify I was more addressing the instruments themselves rather than your work. There's really not a whole lot else you can do, as far as I'm aware, and you still made a pretty good piece here.

+Gunnie thanks for the feedback

Man AWESOME work! Thanks for uploading! :)

Oh, come on! It may be done from sampling software, but it still sounds really close to the original!
sguinn91 This sounds so good

Impressed! A lot of work and greatly executed score. Don't mind harsh criticism (from one user, though), I think it's because this tune is so close to the original (orchestration-wise) that it's gonna automaticly provoke criticism. My word of advice, as EWQL user - with samle-based orchestral work, especially one with a lot of fast notes, I found essential to put everything in even bigger than a normal room, to get everything much more 'reverberated'. That let's you hide some not too good sounding notes (eg non-prerecorded runs). I think that lack of overall room sound criples this piece a little bit. As I remember, Play soft has great IR based reverb biult into it, but any hall reverb on masterbus would do a lot here. In classic movie soundtracks, sound of the room is not less important than intruments. That's, what is missing in the begginning - to give first bars brass' intro muuuuch bigger tail and make this more epic. My personal dream - getting Altiverb with it's Todd AO scoring stage impulse responses. That was (unfortunately no longer 'is') the place, where Star Wars soundtracks were recorded. Immortal sound! A little CC MIDI tweaking would do some good on some notes, dynamic-wise, eg firts long note on violins, after intro run to make it sound more natural. Personally,' I'm trying to incorporate something automatically done in VSL libraries - little, software-generated pitching of samples, especially in the beginning of notes. Slight detuning of the hole section makes it a little more human. But it might be placebo effect ;) Cheers!

not bad ,Indeed proper automation mix and mastering should expand whole concept get this production closer to John Williams original composition:)

If you have ever listened to the original stuff, this makes you want to vomit blood.

I don't know man, listen to solo cinematic strings and NOVO Heavyocity. You literally can not tell the difference, because they are live recordings and you can change every possible dynamic.
