I think at the present moment the Berlin series by Orchestral Tools kinda shadows the East West library, I mean the legato sound awesome in these demos, but this spiccato seems to lack round robin, I saw a demo of a Mahler piece somewhere on youtube that featured Berlin Strings, and oh boy, that is really new level of awesome

Wich software you used for the percussion sounds?

Do these Diamond collections come in one bundle and for how much?
Juancho661 (2 years ago)
+Andy Barraclough Does the Hollywood Orchestra come with all the libraries but with limitations on samples? Why are the libraries more pricey separately then in one bundle or this particular library?
Andy Barraclough (2 years ago)
+juancho661 They do now come complete together with what is now called Hollywood Orchestra http://www.soundsonline.com/Hollywood-Orchestra
not to be rude but this sounds pretty bad and i'll explain why. the drums panned to the left makes imbalance and the snare drum strikes are too hard. on the strings and trumpets, the stacato notes dont sound seperated enough and i can hear specific samples repeating(REALLY obvious on the violinss). the cymbals also sound too dark, so an eq would help if you dont have a brighter sounding one.

By the sheer lack of accuracy in your comments, I conclude that you are either a troll, a wannabe, or just an informed, freaked-out gamer who's in love with his joystick. At ANY rate-Fuck YOU!

Wow! Thats was amazing how do you get hollywood orchestra to sound this realistic :o

Great work, Andy Barraclough. I'm thinking you're great at mixing and mastering too, because I don't think all the levels, positions and head room would have been this perfect just out of the box.
Darth Schumy (2 years ago)
+Steven Cravis I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I think this might be better than the original!  You know something is good, when you turn up the volume (which I did).  Another sign is, when it ends abruptly, your thoughts are in a panic, thinking "No No No! .... where's the rest? .... NOOOOOO!"  You know it has to be a short demo, but the addict your mind has become, wants more nonetheless ... lol!  Amazing work and well done!

+Steven Cravis Tell me about it! haha

Great work. That's a huge amount of keying in notes, +Andrew Barraclough!
Andrew Barraclough (3 years ago)
+Steven Cravis key the notes in one by one in the piano roll.

+Andrew Barraclough playing the notated parts of the score on midi keyboard, or importing as midi files, for each track?

Hey Andrew, did you use any program like finale or sibelius to create a score for this and then exported the midi files and edited them? I'm curious
Arkadiusz Rozmus (1 year ago)
Nope, Finale and Sibelius are not used for composing mockups, it's the other way around, Sibelius and Finale are bound to sound crappy and be used just to get the notes out of the box for a real orchestra to play
Adam Kallibjian (4 years ago)
what mic positions did you use for this, and was that an out of the box sound or how much mastering did you have to do? Also where did the snare and harp come from i.e which library?
Andy Barraclough (4 years ago)
+Mikolaj Holowko I've never used Hybrid SSD's. But I don't think they'll be fast enough for Multiple Legato Patches in Strings. Each Legato String Patch is about 1GB of RAM and the rest coming from the Hard Drive is about 7-8 GB for that one patch alone.
Andy Barraclough (4 years ago)
You'll be fine with 16GB Ram with the Gold Editions. As long as they are being streamed from SSD's.
Andy Barraclough (4 years ago)
+Adam Kallibjian I may do in the future, but i have no time to do something like that now, sorry.
Adam Kallibjian (4 years ago)
+Andy Barraclough Thanks, would you be able to make a detailed video explaining some of these steps... you seem to really have it down to a science and I can't seem to understand some of these steps :) but this is still very well written thanks!
Andy Barraclough (4 years ago)
+Adam Kallibjian Hi Adam, here's a thread I recently posted about how I get it sounding the way I do. http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showthread.php?t=48688

hahaha, you are putting out better demos than east west. If I had heard this I would have already bought their brass.

Hi I've listened to several of these pieces now and though you are a far better mixer than I am, I still think the woodwinds in general are a bit sharp in their tone. I've been using Berlin Woodwinds myself and Am very pleased with the sound quality it offered, it seems to have more depth than it's EWQL counterpart. In any case, it seems to me that EWQL VSTs are at their most convincing in more legato pieces, particularly the strings. I have hw strings gold myself.
